I tried to look on Google Maps to see how to get to Junior's in Brooklyn but the connection in work is pooh. I'll give it a go when I get home. Have you been to it and if so is it easily reached?
Cheers
There's a Junior's store in Grand Central terminal - not quite the fancy original store, but the cheesecake is just as good!“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Quick heads up for anyone needing to book flights to travel up to and including March - BA's prices have suddenly gone back to their sale prices, and in the case of PE, slightly lower!
Economy is from £299, and PE £542 ... slightly gutted that I can't travel until April!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Evening all,
Im off to NYC in just 6 weeks for the first time with my husband.
I believe ive organised as much as i can other than transfers to and from the airport over there.
Im looking at getting a quote from Carmel & Dial 7 however my question is this...
My flight leaves JFK to come back home at 8.55pm, how early do i need to be at the airport for? Im wanting to book the transfers soon and am not sure what time to arrange collection from the hotel? (we are staying at Hotel 373 on fifth avenue)
I dont think it will be as difficult when we arrive, we are due to land at JFK at 12.25pm and i was thinking of arranging the car to meet us at the airport at around 1.30pm??? is that wishful thinking (with regards to immegration and all)or quite realistic do you think?
I always get there 2 hours before as as it says on the airline website (some say 3 )...
Regarding getting out - both times this year it has taken me about 30 minutes, but I know it can be busy in the middle of the day - you can always 'book' a time then call them when you get into luggage claim0 -
We're flying with Continental, direct from Belfast to Newark, NJ and we're staying at Hotel Sofitel which is on 44th Street if memory serves.
So far we want to see/visit
Downtown Loop bus tour to get our bearings
Rockefeller Center + Top Of The Rock
Central Park
Flatiron Building
Times Square
Statue of Liberty
Walk across Brooklyn Bridge (maybe day and night)
NY Waterway 90-minute cruise
Ghostbusters firehouse (for me)
Apple store on 5th Avenue (that's for me too)
and eat at
Tribeca Grill (I think a treat is only right and proper)
Reade Street Pub & Kitchen
Heartland Brewery
Brunch at 230 Fifth
Cheesecake at Junior's
QUOTE]
Hiya - I went in August and stayed on 44th street - It was AMAZING! Its lovely being able to get to so many places within five minutes walking distance!
OK Heartland Brewery (Also called HB Burger, or at least the one I went to!) is fabulous - There is one five minutes from the hotel I stayed at (Which was between 5th and 6th avenue), it was lovely, we went back there three times! So that could be either a place to eat/drink when you get back knackered after walking all over the city, or you can do it when you do TOTR as thats on fifth avenue too.
Some people might not recommend the one I went to, I know markymoo prefers a different one, but I really really liked it.
I went to 'visit' the flatiron building but there isnt really a lot to do there. Its an office building and you arent allowed inside or anything, but it is nice for a photo opportunity. Thats further 'downtown' than where we stayed, so unless you're going that way for anything, its probably not worth going... I'm saying that because there is SO much you can see in the city, I went for a week and still didnt get everything done that I wanted to! Came back home with my feet bleeding from walking so much but it was the most amazing week of my life.
I'm no expert, I've only been once, but wanted to do the same thing as you, put certain sights/eats together so as to get the most from my trip!0 -
Thanks HGLTSuperstar and wept, now wondering if it's better to get the tickets beforehand from broadwaybox and getting the 9am ferry to SoL instead, thus having longer in A&F and Century21 when we get back! By the looks of it broadwaybox offers discounts of approx. 30% - does anyone know what the discount is at TKTS?0

Flatiron Building

Cheesecake at Junior's
Whilst at the flatiron you could eat at the shake shack, which is in madison square park right opposite flat iron, they do wicked burgers and their milkshakes are incredible.
Bluuuuurgh to Juniors cheesecake, dont get me wrong i love cheesecakes but juniors is the most over rated cheesecake i've ever had, hell i've had better from sainsburys.
ooooh and on a personal note pearl jam chuffing rock!!!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

There is no fixed price for discounts at TKTS personally I would rather buy the tickets before I go and know I have them, ie broadwaybox, there is no guarantee that TKTS will have the tickets you want and the queues can be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!!!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

I'm very happy to be amongst fellow Pearl Jam fans
It's been said before on another forum that on this side of the Atlantic we are subjected to poor imitations of cheesecake and going to somewhere like Junior's only emphasises this. There may be better places than Junior's, but we'll give it a go to satisfy our curiosity.
Cheers for the hint about the location of Shake Shack - I read the positive comments about it earlier in the thread but hadn't checked my map. The frozen custard has me intrigued but the queues might be a bit offputting.0 -

Obviously depends on what show you want. For example we are seeing Lion King on the first night and bit the bullet and paid full price through Ticketmaster as this show never gets returns and we are set on seeing it (special birthday trip for me).
We got 30% off Hair for the second night through Broadwaybox - compared to myabe 40% if we queued at TKTS but then we could waste up to 2 hours in a queue, and are now using that time to do TOTR.
If you dont care what you see, just want to see any Boradway show, then you may want to hang out but remember it may be very cold and/or wet in that line!
BTW, have you got your SOL tickets, and are you wanting to go up the crown? If so you need to book pronto!0
