  • Dont want to get involved in individual spats going on here, just to say to Marky that I have found this whole thread very useful in helping me plan my big weekend in New York (this time in 5 weeks I'll be there!)
Sometimes I dont agree with all the advice/recommendations but then everyone has their own needs and requirements so giving advice to strangers is never going to hit the spot every time. However looking at the time (and the time of day i.e. all hours) that Marky devotes to this thread, OK he may be "moody Marky" sometimes (but we all have bad days) but I'm guessing he's helped far more people than he has offended (even if its just passing on his infectious love of NYC)

Although I cant remember any individual questions I asked on here, I definately didnt read the whole thread, although I read the first few pages and the last few pages.
For me, it was my first time to NY (And my first time organising a holiday), and I found this thread soooo helpful... It was like having a load of NY locals giving advice on things I had no idea about. And I did amend my trip in the end as a result of posts I'd read on here. And I think it was for the better. Even now, I still read this thread even though my trip was two months ago :(

Although I will admit to having a bit of a panic when I thought I'd booked a hotel slapbang in the middle of Times Square!
  • I have to say, Markymoo's travel around Manhatten guide has been invaluable. I've been brushing up on the subway.

We go in 3 days time ... pretty nervous now! Got a rough itinery planned, we're meeting out Big Apple Greeter on day 1, and probably doing some shopping. One day we're going to take a day to take the subway down to Brighton Beach and Coney Island, and probably come back and do the Staten Island ferry the same day.

And we've definitely got a day laid out for chilling out and wandering around Central Park! Oh, and i'll be trying ice skating for the first time ever at the Rockefeller centre.

As i said, pretty nervous. I hope it all goes well.

3 days?? So is that Wednesday or Thursday, we fly out Wednesday from Heathrow.

Try not to be too nervous, it is a holiday after all!!

    Edited to add.
I should thank everybody for all their contributions to this thread, especially Marky who's advice has been invaluable. I hope you haven't gone for good Mark, don't let the minority beat you down.

I agree, I dont think/ hope he hasnt gone. Marky knows how much the regular posters to the thread appreciate his posts and the time he spends writting them. As i've said to him before we would be lost without him in the thread, it just wouldn't be the same.

I will be visiting NY over xmas and was wondering if people think I will need to book some where for xmas day? If so has anyone got any suggestions? I have read a few pages and did a quick search, but not found any answers to the question!

I hope Marky is back soon!
  • Do you mean to book for lunch/dinner, a show, a hotel room? Before anyone else says, basic info needed i.e. what are you after and what's your budget?
