No you don't. You can get a minivan which will carry more luggage, and will be cheaper than 2 cars!0 -
The reasons for going with a car service is just simplicity. It is easier especially when the poster has got 2 cases and hand luggage and trying to getthat on the subway won't be that easy IMO!
If the poster is near a station where you can get a direct train, and that station has a lift, then maybe it is an option, but with stairs involved at most subway stations it ain't easy to lug a one case, let alone 2 down the stairs and in the station.
1 mini van costs $60 plus toll and tip, that is $15 each (before toll and tip) compared to $7.25 each on subway and airtrain! Also it will be a direct door to door. It is still more expensive, just not as convenier IMO, and that's why as a recommendation the car service is the option to go with.
Also 4 people, 8 cases will take up room on the subway and could block seats, which may be against subway rules!

I agree with Marky. We travelled with 4 people and loads of luggage and they got it all in one of the minivan taxi's.Took no longer to get one than normal.0

where can i get a minivan from? Do i need to book in advance or can i get one from the street like a yellow cab? tia x0

Just get in the same queue as for the taxis and they will sort you out one which can take 4 passengers and the luggage. Easy as anything.0

if you go for a standard yellow cab, it'll be just $45, plus toll and tip, and you'll just have to stand and wait til you see on. They are quite a lot around the midtown area, so you shouldn't have too long to wait.
if you prebook a car service, https://www.carmelcarservice.com then you request the vehicle you want, the time, the date etc, and they will turn up at your hotel to pick you up.

Marky, Have you found carmel car service to be the same price as a cab?
Its quoted me $40 for the car so plus tolls & taxes will that be about the same if not a bit cheaper than a taxis right?
Tryed that dial7 but they wanted $60 without toll & taxes as although only two of us we have 4 cases.
thanks!New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

carmel are normally cheaper than a cab, but do require prebooking.
if you're booking from the UK, you can also print off and get the discounts, of a few dollars, the link is on the front page of their website - carmel coupons

We probably got one within 5/10 minutes. The hotel just flagged what they knew they were looking for.0
