Lady S - madness.. BA must be making a loss.. i searched the same dates for flight only and it comes up at more than that cost!!
However, when looking at the "standard" flights with that deal, I personally wouldn't go with them, as you get in rather late, and lose the whole last day..
Changing the flight into NYC to a morning flight adds £72 to the total price, and then the flight back, to a flight at 19.40 is free, so your new total is £903 all in... bargain!
£10 more gets you a better hotel, the Park Central...

I have only ever booked hotels and flights seperate, but, BA's deals do seem to rock at the moment. I love Virgin's PE product, but, this is even tempting me to move across. I am a bit useless as I like day flights back, I can't sleep on a plane and it makes me really sick
Just found this on there
Flying on 18th January, if you have a late flight and stay at the Metro it is £798 for the pair of you, but if you switch this to the early flight it is £854 for both of you.
A friend stopped at the Metro earlier this year and said it was proper lovely.

Sounds great, but sorry, I couldn't find the 'this on there'. I'm being thick, I know. But, where exactly? :P0 -
I'm spending two nights in New York at the tail end of a New England holiday and am looking for something cheap and cheerful and not too central. Bed only or B&B. Anything half way decent but not a hostel!
As an aside, (and I've trawled this thread) did anyone find NY not live up to their expectations? Or plain didn't like it? It isn't a place I've considered before and only flying back from JKF as couldn't find a flight from Boston.0 -
OK joining in the countdown - will be there this time on 8 weeks and 4 days. But this time in 9 weeks its the big 3-0 (eek) and final day in NYC (boo his) but at least the Ice Rink schedule is up on the net for this year - yes I know its a rip-off but hey, skating under the Rockefeller Xmas Tree on my birthday, followed by a birthday drinky-poos... got to be done.0

NYC like most big cities is a working city where businesses have to get on with their businesses NYC is hard, harsh, brash and very fast moving > Your on holiday so standing on the pavement going wow as you look up at ESB in total awe is a fantastic experience for you but you are in someones way who is already 5 minutes late for work. We noticed there wasnt many kids in % to adults . We as a family with a wheelchair couldnt keep up with the rush and the pace and had people jumping infront of us to get through doors ,cross roads without batting a eye lid >>>> were they rude? no they just couldnt wait .Did they know? possibly who was the worst ??? young white females by far followed by young white males. Who seemed notice we needed a little more space and time?? slightly older females all races possibly mothers. If you have been sunning on a beach getting a all inclusive in the med or indian then get dropped into NYC Midtown the culture would bring a nun out fighting.
We loved NYC but you have to adjust into i city running at 100MPH Once away from the hubba and bubba the streets quiet down and its a pleasureable experience and people go out of their way to open doors and assist without ask or gain.there are many sides to NYC and NYpeople such a vibrant and cosmopolitain city but very marmite too .
Plus you wont find too many NYC haters on a NYC forum:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
If you want something about 40mph, consider staying in Brooklyn, which is much more relaxed and not as fast paced... People don't think of the outer boroughs, even though they are part of New York.
2 nights, room only, cheap and cheerful and not too central.... that's gotta be the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca, or the Hotel Le Jolie in Brooklyn... my picks, my hotels, so I always mention them..

Thanks Greenface and Mark. Neither of the hotels you recommend have availability. I've left it a bit last minute as we fly the end of this week! Any other recommendations along those lines would be most welcome though.
I'm trying hard not to condemn the place before we go (OH loved it) but I detest London and disliked Vegas intenely. Guess I'm not a city gal!
I did love San Francisco though.0 -
I have stayed in the Affinia Dumont, which was lovely, but the area was a bit quiet, and Doubletree guest suites times square, which was fantastic in the size, but I couldn't handle the location because at night it was horrible busy outside the hotel.
Oh, and the views at the Affinia were to die for.
I can also freely admit that the first time I went I really didn't like it at all and while I eventually got into the swing of things I found it very hard. Variety of reasons, my expectations were huge, My husband did none of the planning at all and just left me to sort everything out which was tiring and my sister who was back home in the UK got confused about the time difference and kept texting me in the middle of the night so I couldn't get on US time. Put all this with the fact I hate flying and I had a pretty awful time for the first two days.
Second time, duck to water and it felt like home... Already planning the third trip now.0
