The only thing super about the super shuttle is the name when it comes to New York.

For $44 (plus toll and tip, giving you a total of around $65), you could have got a private car from dial7 or carmel car service. at $68, plus toll and tip, which you will have to pay when you get there, you're really just throwing money away.

You can get from Newark to Manhattan for only $15 if you use airtrain / train...

Now you tell me, ha ha
What about luggage space we intend to have 2 x cases each ?

    Hi all.

I'm off to see Bruce Springsteen at MSG in November whoo hoo!

Anyway I've been reading this thread and it seems that the best airlines are BA, VA and AA, neither seem to fly from my local airports (East Mids and Birmingham)

I can get flights with Continental for £338 but I've noticed people have concerns about comfort with this airline. My other option is to fly from Manchester with BA but that means driving 2.5 hours to get to the airport with a check in time of 5am.

The continental flight is check in at 7am and its only half hour away from home.

So my question is this, is it really that much better to fly with the 'posh flight three airlines' or is it ok to go Continental as its convenient?

Sorry if its a daft question but I've been reading this forum since this morning and my eyes are plaitting under the strain :-)

Don't blame me, I've voiced my opinions on SuperShuttle a few times... just do a search of this thread.

2 cases each? well, if you're looking at 2 cases each, that are 60 linear inches, then it'll be tight, but a standard taxi has a boot so big, it's unbelievable.

Book Dial7, and you can choose the size of car and get a quote, it'll work out cheaper than supershuttle by my reckoning!

  • Hi I am new here, although I have been surfing on the forum for a while.

I should be off to NYC at the end of next month. I have the choice of AA or VA. VA is around 50 pounds more expensive. Just looking for personal opinions of which you guys would choose.

Also, Are there different routes to take into the city? I have checked the guide but I would like to know if there is a choice of bridges you can go across. A friend suggested Brooklyn Bridge. Can you go over Manhattan Bridge too? I don't mind too much but it has to be a bridge anyway because I dislike tunnels.

Also - on average how long does it take to get through immigration and customs etc once you land? I am staying at an apartment and I need to tell them what time I will arrive there.

    Thanks a lot guys.

Depends where you stay in manhattan, and which airport
you fly into, as to which way you will go into manhattan. You CAN tell a driver which way to go, but then it might not be on a fixed fee, which is the norm.

Don't fly into Newark, discount that straight away, as it is really only a tunnel option to get into manhattan. You can't use the subway, as that is all in tunnels, so even getting around NYC will either be lots of walking, or expensive taxis!!!

Finally, did you know that most apartment rentals in New York are either illegal, or don't exist! How do you know it's legal or even there?? Personally, you should cancel that and book a legal hotel. There are suite style hotels available if you want the features. This has been mentioned before and people still book apartments always amaze me!

I've flown with BA, VA & Continental (never done AA). Of the three I found them equally comfortable (or uncomfortable, depending on your viewpoint ;) ).

I would absolutely under no circumstances contemplate going out of my way to fly BA or VA over Continental if the airport is more convenient for you.

The hassle (and the extra cost of petrol to get there and cost to park your car) is not worth it. JMO (not that I rate BA/VA over Continental anyway).

Radio City Apartments is a suite style hotel. The majority of rentals, those advertised on places like vrbo etc, are the ones where it is either a sublet, which is against NYC law, so therefore illegal, or ones where there are fake photos, no address, asking for deposit via western union or paypal, and you have to phone on arrival so someone can meet you.

There are a few that are legal, but the vast majority are not.

All airlines are much of a muchness, and I would in no way say that BA, VA, or AA are better than each other... Delta, Continental, US Airways all fall into the same boat too.. there isn't anything "posh" about economy class on any of the airlines, with most offering 31" pitch, on a standard seat, and some having varying differences of in flight boredom, i mean entertainment.

I always say to go with the one that has the right price for your budget. By all means, spend money just because you want to fly with AA, or BA (i've flown both, along with US Airways, Air France, Delta, and United) and have found no real difference with anything... Also, I'm suprised to say that you could fly BA from Manchester, but all that does is make you change in London, so it's only an internal flight, so you don't have to check in as early as an international direct flight. 90 minutes before is right for that, as you're still 2 - 3 hours ahead of your international leg.
