Its all about cost and convenience. Comfort is relative when travelling for that length of time. Try and get an aisle seat though.

You implied in your first post there was no way to get around other than subway, walking or taxi.

My first post was in answer to how to get into manhattan without using a tunnel, I added the extra about discounting the subway when getting into nyc, and using taxi or walking. Maybe I should have said bus, but most times going up or downtown, i've found walking more effective/faster than taking the bus, but maybe i am walking up and down busy areas full of cars and taxis.

by all means take the bus, I ain't fussed, I just try and help and voice what I know and what I've used. Crosstown the bus is useful, in the outer boroughs, the bus is useful, but up and downtown, especially midtown and lower manhattan, I think it is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

bear in mind, I am only going on my experiences here, and all what i say is just my opinion.

Mark, your experience is greater than most. I only wish I could have put it in to practice. Once I was there, any plans I had went out the window.

personally, I don't like expedia, as they really don't have a good choice of airlines

Which is the very reason why I keep going back. I've explored only a small area of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, so will be going back to that area in March.

Still unsure if I'm going to split the visit between Manhattan and Brooklyn, but I definitely want to do the following next time

1 - Fly on Thursday, so my Friday night isn't wasted by being tired, and in bed by 10pm.

2 - More bar hopping, My Saturday evening was slightly wasted again, as I ventured into Hoboken, NJ to go to a show, I won't do that, so I get 3 good evenings in Williamsburg.

My holidays to NYC are different to most. Did I go shopping this time, not really, wandered around Century 21, and bought nothing, didn't even look at clothes in Macy's, just bought a few gifts for mum and sister. I like travelling on my own, and NYC fits the bill perfectly, as I meet people, and that's what I like. I go back, and bartenders remember me, and this time, even after 2 years, I was remembered, and caught up with what we've been up to in our lives. That's why I love NYC.
