I spent about $30 a day, but then I'm a cheap skate and another $70 in the evenings - but me and my friend switched between paying on different nights - we ate out in UES most nights and it never really came to more than $150 for two people including drinks...
I didnt pay to go into the MET either - its suggested donation so I just walked in
Most of the other stuff I did was free - park, library walking around admiring the general cool 'NYness' - subway card was $25 but I think its $31 now for 7 days - soo worth it...
So $300 a day should be plenty in my cheapskate opinion
Oh um if you go on the heli trip - let us know what is was like - I went on one in HK (free through a friend) and it was amazing!

hmm.. i go on my own.. so, this is a persona budget for me.
i know i like to drink, so i always budget around $100 a night, which includes a meal, a couple of taxis (the subway gets less frequent after midnight), and i could easily spend around $50 a day, just on breakfast, lunch, drinks, and afternoon drinking (well i have to sample as many different local beers!)
so $300 a day for 2 of you, seems about right, if you're just, eating, drinking and partying...
other purchases are above this...

Has anyone stayed in a hotel (reasonably priced) as close as poss to Central Park - names, reviews, how booked it etc please.
Is it worth ringing a hotel directly rather than through a web booking?
Do you think any would give an early bird booking discount or is it the case that NYC will always be booked up so they don't need to worry?
Need 1 room with 2 single beds rather than one double - does this make a difference to the price - if so would booking a double an requesting two singles work?
Hope my rambling makes sense and thanks in advance.0 -

i've looked at many many hotels in NYC, and i don't think i recall any that offer single beds... double, or 2 doubles..
the only places you may get single beds is the YMCA up that way..

So pretty much like the Hong Kong one then
(except I didnt pay for mine, but you get the idea) ... I also found it actually made me feel a little car sick weirdly, but I still loved it - ooo maybe thats for next time then
You can imagine the skyline there, a bit like HK, I would assume, you just have to see it by air.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
actually, a helicopter flight is something i haven't done in NYC yet...
