    Haven't a clue what clothes to take!!!!
    Surely the answer is "as few as possible" so you can buy what you need when you get there? :confused: Not that this would have worked for me since the boys didn't let me go shopping, and no, I am never going to let them forget that!

    These are the hotels I have stayed at in New York, with their official rating, and my personal rating:

    Belvedere Hotel
    319 West 48th Street
    New York, NY

    The Belvedere, located at 319 West 48th Street, is just two blocks from New York City’s Restaurant Row and Times Square, and within walking distance of major New York City attractions. Whether you want to visit Rockefeller Center or Central Park, shop on Fifth Avenue or at Columbus Circle, or take in a show at Radio City Music Hall, this Art Deco boutique New York City hotel is right in the heart of the action. The Belvedere is perfectly located for guests planning to visit other New York City landmarks as well, such as The Museum of Modern Art, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.

    Official rating: 3*
    My rating: 3*+

    Great hotel staff when I stayed there, very helpfull and nothing is too much for them. I stayed here twice.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Wolcott Hotel
    4 West 31st Street
    Between 5th Avenue & Broadway
    New York, NY 10001
    The Hotel Wolcott is one of New York City's best kept hotel
    bargain secrets. Centrally located on 31st Street, just 3 blocks down 5th Avenue from the Empire State Building,the Wolcott offers a great alternative to Manhattan's high priced hotels.

    Official rating: 3*
    My rating: 2*+

    The hotel is nicely situated and my room had a view of the Empire State Building. The rooms are nice and very large for New York. but the decor is a little old fashioned and the staff are not very good with English. I stayed here twice.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Hotel Pennsylvania
    401 Seventh Avenue (at 33rd St.)
    New York, N.Y., 10001-2062

    New York's Hotel Pennsylvania is the fourth largest hotel in Manhattan (1,700 rooms). Our location in the heart of midtown-Manhattan places us directly opposite Madison Square Garden and Amtrak's Penn Station. Macy's, the world's largest department store, is one block up the street and the Empire State building is around the corner.
    The Hotel is also located a couple of blocks away from The Jacob Javits Convention Center and offers easy access to both the Fashion and Theatre Districts. New York's Hotel Pennsylvania puts you at the center of it all!

    Official Rating: 2*+
    My rating: 0*

    You cannot beat the hotel for granduer and location. The lobby looks massive and very welcoming. but once you get to the floors and the bedrooms, you just want to turn around and go back home. If you need the location and no sleep then stay here. If you like sleep and rest during the night then steer clear. Stayed here only once.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    The Americana Inn
    69 West 38th Street New York, NY 10018

    The Americana Inn hotel in Midtown Manhattan was built with the savvy New York tourist in mind. The hotel is ideal for travelers searching for a value-priced hotel in hip, midtown Manhattan. The Americana Inn’s single, double, and triple-bed rooms come equipped with flat-screen TVs. The hotel’s shared bathrooms have been recently renovated. The Americana Inn also provides kitchenettes on each floor, which are equipped with refrigerators and microwaves.

    Official rating: 2*+
    My rating: 2*

    Good for the location and the hotel staff is friendly. But expect a lot of students and people on a very tight budget. Stayed here once.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    The Hotel Newton
    2528 Broadway Ave New York, NY 10025

    Cited as one of New York City’s top mid-priced hotels by Newsday, the Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune, The Newton is the quintessential hotel for travelers seeking comfort and accessibility to all the splendor Manhattan has to offer. The Newton…the travelers favorite among Uptown Manhattan hotels in New York.

    Official rating: 3*+
    My rating: 3*

    Nice hotel and again good staff. Good and nice location, but a little expensive for what you get. Stayed here once.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    New York Marriott Marquis
    1535 Broadway
    New York, New York 10036 USA

    The New York Marriott Marquis Hotel brings Manhattan to your door. Located in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway theater district, this midtown Manhattan hotel is perfect for weekend getaways, family travel and business travel. The Marriott Marquis sparkles with updated hotel rooms, high-speed elevators and six hotel restaurants and lounges. With area attractions such as Fifth Avenue shopping, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, NBC Studios and Central Park just minutes away, a stay at this New York City hotel ensures that entertainment is just around the corner. Additionally, the Marriott Marquis is conveniently located near New York City attractions like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the UN and Madison Square Garden.

    Official rating: 4*
    My rating: 3*+

    very nice hotel, but the staff is a little unfriendly, unless you have the cash to tip. But awesome views from the hotel and restaurant. Stayed here once.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    And I have stayed at a few smaller hotels outside of Manhattan, and will be staying at the Marriott Midtown East on the 27th of February.

    Can anyone recomend a good service from Newark to the city? Always go in Yellow cab, was thinking about doing something else this time.
    Bus, train ect...

    Hi, heading back to NYC myself (4th time :j ) on 5th march, here are some notes I made for myself since it is my first time arriving into Newark.

    Take the free AirTrain (monorail) to the airport Train station and from there get a NJ transit train (not Amtrak) to Penn Station in MANHATTAN (don't go to Penn Station in Newark). At Penn Station in Manhattan, go down to the subway and take the 1 train heading to uptown. Get off at 42nd Street Times Square station where you should be able to transfer to most lines to get nearer to your hotel. Alternatively you can just take a taxi from Penn to your hotel.

    or

    jump on a Coach USA/Olympia Trails Bus from all terminals in Newark airport to Grand Central Terminal $15 each. This bus leaves every 15 minutes, takes 40 minutes to arrive and stops 3 times in Manhattan at: Port Authority Bus Terminal, Bryant Park + Grand Central.

    try tripadvisor for hotel reviews... if no one has responded, it's probably because no one has stayed at that hotel...

    Stayed here last year and its the best hotel i have ever stayed in Great location in the middle of everything. The higher your room the better (we were on 41st floor)lobby fantastic lifts zoom neat little cocktail bar , On the complex with E-Walks (multiscreen cinema and bowling etc) shulas restaraunt beautiful steaks and b b kings blues bar who have super shows on day and eve, over the rd from times square and madame tussauds.As it is expensive you get what you pay for and some/ beds/ bathroom /bathrobes
    all luxury we had two rooms on different sides both fantastic views.staff cleaners porters all very helpfull and imo after studying for a few weeks our choice based on location /family/wheelchair user/fairly big budget was the right one. We flew Delta to JFK good flight good plane efficient air stewards
