We booked the flights you mentioned so again thank you, however I decided to up the budget to £1600 and we are going to the Roger Smith hotel on lexington. A friend of a friend had stayed there and thought highly of it, so that will do for me.
hmm. yes, i am being sarcastic in the following, so ignore if you want...
so, you've paid more, for a worse hotel (TA Ratings 156 vs 129) in a generally iffy area of the city, as there is no life around there.. just, corporates... enjoy looking at buildings of big businesses and paying $7 for a beer..
obviously, this is just my opinion, and I'd rather stay in NYC where there is life and locals, rather than suits and corporates.... each to their own though

aaah.. you do have a sense of humour... excellent..
I've not stayed at any of the hotels you've mentioned, but i would go with the one in the best area, which ts / midtown isn't IMO the best. It might look nearer on a map to get to where you want to be, but in the evenings, there isn't much around these areas, for GOOD reasonably priced restaurants, as these are normally found in the lower or upper parts of Manhattan....
Let me get addresses, and I'll make an informed choice of where i'd stay... gotta drive to the office now....0 -

well thank you i do try,
will look forwards to your recomendations, as i have read on this forum your advice is "top notch"
good point about the evenings/ restaurants, i had not taken this into account whilst searching for hotels in ManhattAn:D,(got it right this time)0 -
With regards to cheap hotels I'd reccomend Hotel Penn. I know it has some scathing reviews on trip adviser but - when I went the staff were friendly, the rooms HUGE, cleaned reguarly and in a superb location - Maddision square garden across the road with Fifth venue Macys just a two minute walk away and Times Square not much further.
Cheap and cheerful.Merry Christmas MSE!0 -
I forgot to ask this yesterday, but has anyone had problems getting through JFK because of a 'common' surname??? Just before the immigration guy did my finger prints, he was looking up my details on his computer.I was waiting for approx 40 minutes-I kid you not:mad:He claimed it was because I had a common surname. It seemed everyone that went through his isle had a 'common' name-we were all there for ages.He was saying he cannot get a 100% match and he has to otherwise he's not doing his job properly. It was a bit of a carry on I could of done without, lol.
I must have the most common name (first name and surname) after Adam Smith and I had no problems - isnt that weird!!! Maybe he was just ruddy slow0 -
Hi,
6 of us have just booked for April 2010, fly from Birmingham direct on 1st April, return 4th April, staying at the Radisson Lexington. Cost of £575 each.
May not be the cheapest but I'm far too fat and lazy to drive 200 miles to Gatwick and have 1 change over.
Have spent most of the day reading this thread and put some websites on my favourite list.
I think we need to be well organised before we go!
Cheers
