I haven't flown in 26 years, I'm going on my own and frankly there is a lot to think about for (not technically) a first time flyer. I'd just like to to go as smoothly as possible. so i can enjoy the holiday.

I forgot to ask this yesterday, but has anyone had problems getting through JFK because of a 'common' surname??? Just before the immigration guy did my finger prints, he was looking up my details on his computer.I was waiting for approx 40 minutes-I kid you not:mad:He claimed it was because I had a common surname. It seemed everyone that went through his isle had a 'common' name-we were all there for ages.He was saying he cannot get a 100% match and he has to otherwise he's not doing his job properly. It was a bit of a carry on I could of done without, lol.

You're fine, me and Phat Bear are just having a bit of a laugh... ignore us..

have a great holiday, get to the airport early, check in, be polite, and smile, get through security, and venture to the airport bar, where you may be able to partake in drinking a nice alcoholic beverage.

Make sure you have an idea what gate you are flying from, they should tell you this on check in.

Get to the gate nice and early, buy a bottle of water after security, so you can take that on board.

once boarded, settle down (if at all possible in the awful seats they cram us into) and relax... you're on your way to the greatest city in the world!

any questions when you're there, get on here and ask, and we will try and answer to make sure you make the most of your holiday!

    most importantly, have fun!

the hotel won't even be 3* but it'll be clean, in a great area, and near a subway station for that kinda budget... so here goes...

4 nights would fit in your budget, 5 nights would stretch it slightly...

£380 per person with Continental for a direct flight (flying 9th 4 nights)
£414.65 (using 1.6 as exchange rate) for 4 nights at the cosmopolitan hotel in tribeca...

    Grand Total of £1174.65

5 nights you'd be looking at

£519.22 for the hotel... tweaking the dates slightly, 5 nights would be 10th - 15th of Sept, but the flight would be with AF, and 1 change.. that's £370 each...

    so a total of £1259.23

I'm staying at that hotel from the 14th September, and have stayed there plenty of times before, so I know it's a good hotel, in a great area...

Thank you, would have thanked you earlier but busy at work.;)

We booked the flights you mentioned so again thank you, however I decided to up the budget to £1600 and we are going to the Roger Smith hotel on lexington. A friend of a friend had stayed there and thought highly of it, so that will do for me.
