belleclaire is good - but very very basic for the rooms with shared bathroom - I stayed there in April and the bed was comfy and the staff nice, but the lift breaks a lot so dont take too much luggage ;)

I would say for my price range it was perfect but its not amazing - they are also re-decorating at the moment so it can be hard to find underneath the sheeting!

We stayed there on our last trip.

    Good points:

On the same block as a subway
    Cheap as chips
Close to macy's, which kept Mrs Phatbear happy
Nice little dinner attached to the hotel, they do wicked hazelnut latte's
    Clean rooms

    Down sides.

Worlds smallest elevator, which can be a pain if they are busy.
Noisy air con and fridge, this of course was only in our room so it may be a one off
Zero view in some rooms, the rooms with a view are noisy because of traffic.

In conclusion wicked little hotel for sleeping in and using as a base to head out from, if you spend much time in the room then you are'nt doing NY right!!
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

I'm booked to go for a week to NYC with my 62yr old mum and my 12 month old daughter. 25th November- 2nd December 2009

Other than the thanksgiving day parade we have nothing else planned.

If you were us, what would you say we should aim to do/see in the days that we are there.

There was an excellent Fairway supermarket opposite with an unbelievable choice of stuff.

Odd question but do you remember the opening and closing times of the supermarket. I HAVE to buy pop tarts and Reeses while in NYC (in the flavours we can't get over here) and was thinking a midnight mooch around the aisles before crossing the road back to my room would be ideal.

glad you had a great time and look forward to hearing more

have you got any ideas of what things you want to do so we can whittle it down.... maybe i'd suggest going to a museum, but your mother might not like that particular one... :/

i'm willing to help, but throw me a rope, and chuck some ideas around.. what are your and your mums likes, dislikes, art tastes, culture tastes etc etc....

Carriage ride around central park and visit Toys R Us in Times Square. I've heard the Central park zoo is excellent:D

  • Hi,would like a little help if it is possible.

I would like to take the mrs away to new york for 4-5 nights. I have a budget of £1200 for flights and hotel. Will be going ideally on the 9th Sep, but can go a few days later. Flying from manchester

The hotel does not have to be 5* as to be honest not going to be in it much.

Any help would be much apprciated. Thank you.

the hotel won't even be 3* but it'll be clean, in a great area, and near a subway station for that kinda budget... so here goes...

4 nights would fit in your budget, 5 nights would stretch it slightly...

£380 per person with Continental for a direct flight (flying 9th 4 nights)
£414.65 (using 1.6 as exchange rate) for 4 nights at the cosmopolitan hotel in tribeca...

    Grand Total of £1174.65

5 nights you'd be looking at

£519.22 for the hotel... tweaking the dates slightly, 5 nights would be 10th - 15th of Sept, but the flight would be with AF, and 1 change.. that's £370 each...

    so a total of £1259.23

I'm staying at that hotel from the 14th September, and have stayed there plenty of times before, so I know it's a good hotel, in a great area...
