I doubt it - fireworks night (Guy Fawkes) is a distinctly British event as it marks the attempt to blow up Parliament after all!!"Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Coney Island has fireworks - 9:30 every Friday night during the season. Fireworks generally start the last weekend in June and conclude the Friday before Labor Day.
Though as I said before, check if the whole place is still open!0 -
Hey guys,
Have literally spent the entire day reading this thread from start to finish. booked my flight this avo 18th - 23rd november £269 with BA so a pretty good deal.
i went to NY about 6 years ago and stayed at the excelsior hotel which was UWS i think? Am looking for a hotel this time round, something in that area would be nice but kinda on a budget. Something as close to £100 a night would be good but dont want to go as low as a hostel.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!0 -
If you want to be in UWS try the Belleclaire - I stayed there in April and its basic but clean - I had a room where our bathroom was shared with 2 other rooms - think it came in at about £80 a night with tax0

Just in case anyone needs to know... the exchange rate seems to be up today, using the travel money maximiser thing, its the highest I've seen it for about a month!0

Yeah the £ is hitting pretty good highs at the moment - my american friends are moaning about their trip over here now instead of the other way round like it has been0

Thats good to know - I've been watching it for about a month, I said to myself that if I could get $1700 for my £1000, then I'd go for it. My trip is just under 3 weeks away (If I think about it too much, I get over-excited!), and its the highest I've seen it - Not sure if it will get any higher though, although I hope so! I'm going for 7 days, and everyone says £1000 will be more than enough!0

£1000  I spent £250 the first time in Jan and £300 in April but I am big cheapskate and dont shop0

Well its my first time... and originally, I was going with a friend for two weeks (hence we decided the need for that sort of spending money), but then plans changed and I'm going with my sister for one, but it was just as easy to save the same amount of money. Since we started planning it, I saved £150 a month for it, which has paid for hotel (£650), flight (£353), and spending money (£1000). It was a blessing in disguise to be honest though, as I was made redundant last month, so I was lucky I already had the money saved for it!
I'm not planning to buy loads and loads, but I do want a trip to tiffanys, and I've bought really good tickets to see wicked and phantom of the opera.0
