I'm going to NY on 13 August for 5 days...I have now got more time off than I thought and I would now like to stay for 7 days...I could get an extra 2 days at the hotel no problem....could anyone tell me if its possible to change the flight details and get a later one back...and if there is a cost involved? I'm going with BA from Heathrow

    Thanks

depends on what ticket you bought. if you got the cheapest one, it is no changes / no refunds, so all you can do is book another return ticket...

    markymoo,
been reading all of your excellent reviews on the cosmo hotel, thinking of booking ten nights with them for xmas and new years next year, have you ever stayed there that time of year please?
just curious too, does central new york have walmarts?
    once again many thanks

    Hi laurauk

Nope.. i've never done christmas and new year, always seem to spend it with my family.

However, I have stayed at the hotel in a January before... the hotel is the same as any other day really.. still clean etc etc.

One thing, it is cold outside, so learn to layer up... if you want to save money, you'll go for a week or so after the first week of Jan, prices are probably half what you'll pay for christmas and new year.

and the nearest Walmart is in Secaucus, New Jersey, so not really that far away.... why people want to walk around a Walmart on their holiday is beyond me, but it's there...

    Hi guys,

Planning a holiday to New York in September - very exciting! Went there for the first time four years ago and have been desperate to go back since. Now I'm taking someone with me who hasn't been before so going to be great showing them around everywhere and getting to do all touristy stuff all over again.

Am on a strict budget, and on a mission to get travel and accommodation as I can! Budget needs to be under £900 for travel and accommodation, for two of us, for 7 days. Dates are Sep 12th onwards.

A couple of weeks ago spotted flights for £270 but they're not around at the mo and the cheapest I can find is £308 on AA, which is a pretty decent airline - or was last time I flew with them.

Can't afford hotels so going for a hostel - found a relatively nice looking one on Upper East Side ( 73rd Street and York Avenue), which has shared apartments with private rooms.

Just wondered your thoughts in terms of all of that - any recommendations you have would be great!

    Cheers

Try expedia. i just booked a great deal with them, with BA flights... £500 each for 4 nites

woah.. £900 for 2 people... damn, i'm doing 7 nights, will be in NYC from the 11th September, (i'll wave if i see anyone not called fred), and i'm spending £1200 for 1 person...

how much spending money do you take?...nosey git me :)

I've got a rough figure for the three of us for 5 days.....

I'm not a huge fan of AA, as you'll have to change at Chicago, which is supposedly a really awful airport... check out delta see what prices they're doing

These are direct flights, though. Leaving 8am British time, getting to JFK at about 11.

Guess it shows how desperate I am to go back to New York considering how tightly am having to budget. But at least at means when I do splash out a bit more on future trips it'll feel really special! I'm surprised there's not more recommedations for New York hostels on this site though.

my direct flight with BA at 0855 to JFK is £434 each...you have a great deal there notfred...or I have a really crap one...I think I know the answer
  • Yeah, that's what I think. But I'm still thinking I could wait a few days longer for it to drop under £300, which would be ideal. Think I should just book now?

well the money i've said is on flights, hotels (7 nights). As for spending money, i think i'll take about $2000 as i've got 7 nights/8 days in NYC, that works out at $250 a day...

that $250 is for everything, spends, food, drink, transport etc...

Flights, under £300 is the target for a good flight price, over £400 is kinda poor to be honest.... I got mine, from MAN, so always more expensive than London Airports, for £330 this time for travel in September, whereas March, I got the flight for £280.
