booked through company called Travelzoo. Flights with Air Canada from Heathrow to La Guardia. Had I booked a little quicker would have got the deal for £484 each but I hesitated!
So you've got an indirect flight as lagaurdia only has domestic flights.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Do I Tip?
Hell yes! In the US, the bartenders sometimes don't get a wage, so the tips are their wage, or they get something very low, like $2 - $3 an hour. So you tip. It's simple.
What I normally do, is on my first drink, tip $2. Always order from the same bartender then the next time, and the following drinks are $1 a drink tip.
What SHOULD happen is after about 4/5 drinks, depending on the bar/bartender, is they'll give you a buyback. Basically, they buy you a drink from the tips you've given them.
Now, if there are 2 of you, I'd probably tip $2 for the first and second rounds, and then a $1.
I'm a barfly so I prop up the bar, and normally spark up conversation if it is not too busy with the bartender, and with the tips, get great service, the phrase TIPS, stands for To Insure Proper Service, which in many cases it does. One thing that I love about bartenders in NYC, is that they remember what you drink, and if your glass/bottle is getting empty, and they spot it, they'll offer you another one, without you having to ask! that is service, and it's wonderful. You tip well, you do get good service in NYC.
Also, if you go back to the same bar, and you've tipped well, the bartender normally remembers you too.
If the bartender sets up a tab for you (which they do a lot), I tip the first drink, and then at the end, but you still get a buyback.
Now, if you stick to the UK rule, and get served by anyone, you won't get the buyback, as you have to stick to the bartender that first serves you... it's a little rule really.
Hope that helps

Hi guys,
Planning a holiday to New York in September - very exciting! Went there for the first time four years ago and have been desperate to go back since. Now I'm taking someone with me who hasn't been before so going to be great showing them around everywhere and getting to do all touristy stuff all over again.
Am on a strict budget, and on a mission to get travel and accommodation as I can! Budget needs to be under £900 for travel and accommodation, for two of us, for 7 days. Dates are Sep 12th onwards.
A couple of weeks ago spotted flights for £270 but they're not around at the mo and the cheapest I can find is £308 on AA, which is a pretty decent airline - or was last time I flew with them.
Can't afford hotels so going for a hostel - found a relatively nice looking one on Upper East Side ( 73rd Street and York Avenue), which has shared apartments with private rooms.
Just wondered your thoughts in terms of all of that - any recommendations you have would be great!
Cheers0 -
woah.. £900 for 2 people... damn, i'm doing 7 nights, will be in NYC from the 11th September, (i'll wave if i see anyone not called fred), and i'm spending £1200 for 1 person...
I'm not a huge fan of AA, as you'll have to change at Chicago, which is supposedly a really awful airport... check out delta see what prices they're doing0
