It's two seperate tickets Mark, is there no way they can check right through for us?
Not a huge deal hopefully, fly into Newark at 3pm ish and Glasgow flight not until 7pm-ish so plenty of time, would have been a tad easier right enough!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
Depends on how nice the check in person is.
I was once in NYC, and was flying back home to MAN, however, I'd visited Portland, Maine before. I had one ticket that was to PWM, and then another ticket from PWM to PHL and then to MAN. My luggage did get checked through to my final destination, which was half a job done, as what she should have really done, was to fly me from LGA to PHL directly, saving the company money (which i asked, and got told no!)
so, it is hit or miss really.... can't say either way, but you might as well ask the question when you drop your bags, if they will tag them to your final destination.

I'm reading on trip advisor about pre approved TSA padlocks and that no other kind will be accepted by airport security.
This is the first ive heard of this and im wondering what else (being a total noob and never flown since the early 80's) should I know that I'm not being told?
Please, treat me like im stupid, I dont have a clue what I'm doing.
thanks0 -
fordy.. when entering the USA, they are allowed to search your luggage. You know if it happens, as they put a card in your case, and then a seal on your luggage.
It's not that it won't be accepted, it is that if the case is locked, and you're not using a TSA approved padlock, they will break it off.
I just leave my case unlocked, however the only things you'll find in it are clothes, and toiletries. All my cables, electronics, and useful things, come with me in my hand luggage.

Marky are you allowed to take cameras through it hand luggage? It's quite a big camera (canon eos 450d) and are laptops also allowed through as I'm thinking of buying loads of stuff while im out there then organising dhl to pick it up from my hotel and send it home for me saving me on luggage.
Many thanks

I take a Nikon D50, plus a small pocket Nikon in my hand luggage. Why it wouldbn't be allowed, is beyond me. I always take my laptop with me, and also, you can use these on the plane, again, why you wouldn't be able to confuses me.
Bear in mind, that if you buy "loads" of stuff, and ship it home, you'll have to pay duty, and vat on the goods, so you can't buy "loads".
as a passenger, you're allowed £340 worth of goods, and if you're shipping things in via mail, it's £19.
Not worth it IMO. Stick within your customs limit, or prepare to have a whopping huge bill.. i'm sure it's a criminal offence to falsely declare on a mail package!0 -
£340, good to know, another big thanks to Marky!0

Thanks Marky I read somewhere that someone had a problem with taking a large camera through and also a laptop I don't know
Is it £340 per passenger? as there is two of us
I can't wait now, I also seen a good deal to New York a cruise on the QE2 in January it was either £599 or £550 per person for 6 days so thinking of that for January 2011.
Thankyou for all your help, I also bought the Brits Guide To New York which I'm giving a good read at the moment

IMO the brits guide is really poor. It doesn't find any hidden gems as I like to call them, but decent restaurants and bars seem to go out of the window in that book... try getting a couple of pages of not for tourists. You can download individual sections from their website, and all this book is, is a series of maps, and it pinpoints restaurants, bars, transport links (buses and subway), etc.
I'm not a huge fan of the brits guide, why do you need a brit to guide you around when you can do it on your own. When I went to NYC initially, I took the time out guide book.
oh, and as for the £340, yes, it is per person, but you can't pool your allowance. This means, if you buy something worth £1000, then you have to pay the full duty etc on that item, not the part above £340.
