I paid £434 for my BA flight from Heathrow to JFK back in March.....all these flights in the 200's make me feel a bit of a one...oh well we'll still have a good time :)

I wouldn't worry Waxies, it was a miracle i got that flight for £288 up to then the best i found was £314 and that was via heathrow from manchester. Theres no prediction to it, its just luck.

what did you guys do for charging batteries etc while in the states?

Ive looked at step up transformers, but they are pretty large and heavy.

what are you wanting to charge?

my phone/laptop/camera battery chargers are all multi voltage, and i've not seen any that are not 100-240v

you don't need any step up transformer, just a plug adaptor.

We had 'issues' with the boys' mobile phone chargers: they were all using old Nokias with the 'fat' charger, and they didn't work with the plug adaptors for some technical reason which the boys thought they understood but didn't think I would. Once we moved on from NY we had a hire car, and fortunately I'd taken the car chargers as well as the plug chargers, so they charged them in the car after that.

No problems with laptops and cameras, as marky says.

I'll be in NYC then... albeit it over in Brooklyn from the 11th..... :D

As for mixed reviews, the way i see it is that you're going to be there a minimal amount of time... sleep, shower, drop stuff off.. you're in New York!!! you'll be going out, and walking loads!!!

If it's a good deal, it might be worth it..... fingers crossed Expedia come back with something though

Eventually after quite a bit of hassle we managed to get our money back from Expedia for the Crown Plaza, Newark booking. We have now booked to stay at the Milburn, upper west side, paying an additional £150, but as you said Markymoo it would have cost us to travel into Manhattan everyday so we are happy with this. Our total cost for direct flights from Manchester and 4nights at the Milburn Hotel is £950.

    Thanks for your help.

Excellent.. thanks for letting us know what's happened, and also the good news that expedia did give you the refund.

You are 4 blocks north of a subway station that the 1,2,3 (2 and 3 are express trains) and 4 blocks south of a subway station to the 1 (which is a local train)

With the express 1, you can get to from your hotel, to times square in about 6 minutes, and down to macys in about 15.. the 2,3 are good trains to be near IMO... :)
