Hey kezby, I'd assume its with all long-haul flights? I'm hoping so anyway!

Plus, I'm staying in Times Square too, Staybridge Suites. I worked in New York state for 5 months last year and any time I went into the city I stayed pretty central. I'd say that your 1st few times going it might be good to stay in 'touristy areas', just until you get a feel for the place. Plus, some people prefer to stay in amongst it all and not have to worry about getting the subway at midnight to go back to their hotel, each to their own.

What hotel you staying at? If it's got good reviews and you got it for a good price then personally I wouldn't take any notice of what others say.

Its called the Iroquois (And is a nightmare to spell) - Its got some great reviews, and we got a relatively good deal. I say that, but I've found it cheaper after we booked it, but I dont look anymore coz I know if I see it cheaper, it'll wind me up!
I was originally going with a broadway-crazy friend, hence her wanting to be so close to Broadway, but plans have changed now and I'm going with my sister.
I'm getting very excited about it now, started booking things... So far I've booked Phantom of the Opera, and a pizza tour. Still trying to work out whether its worth paying the money to go and see Wicked (On the website, there are some not-great seats for $110 each, or ticketmaster sells them, you're looking at £150+ for slightly better seats)
If there's free drinks on the plane, thats a bit of a bonus!
I have to say, this forum has been a godsend - Its the first holiday I've planned, and the fact that theres lots of people who know what they are talking about has been amazing :)

Well that hotel is number 31 out of 421 in NYC according to Trip Advisor so I'd say that's not too shabby at all! How long are you going for?

Edit: I've just searched for Continental (who I'm flying with) and apparantly it's only soft drinks that are free and no back seat tellys - boo! But my flight was relatively cheap so not too bothered.

    Just a week, 22-29 August.
Thats partly why I booked that hotel, I'm a slave to trip advisor! I just didnt want to end up with something disappointing, and although we wont be in our hotel room THAT much, I love nice hotels anyway! I'd hate for the trip to be ruined by a terrible hotel room.
I went on a cruise six months ago, and we had a flight to the Dominican Republic, it was about 9 hours, and the drinks werent free then. Although we had back-seat tv's too! :)

I'm confusing myself, my aircraft does have back seat TV's, but not free alcoholic drinks apparantly (probably a good thing!!)

I've said before on this thread that there is so much to do and see in NYC that your hotel room is little more than a dumping ground for bags and shopping, sleeping and showering.

When I stayed in the city I stayed in the Hotel Carter... don't search for reviews on that it was awful!

I've found a website (I dont think I can link it, but its air-text.com, theres a page that says plane facts), which says that Air France offers free drinks. But in the process of installing the tv's. I dont really mind about them to be honest, it was nice to watch a film, because it took the edge off the flight time, but I can do without them.
We looked at staying at a lot of hotels in Times Square, my friend was keen on the Paramount, but all the pictures on Trip Advisor look really grotty... And it wasnt exactly cheap either!
The Wellington was one that was suggested time and time again, but a friend who stayed there said it was a little bit old-fashioned, and it didnt cost that much more to stay at the Iroqouis, which does look lovely!

You'll have a great time and I'm so jealous you're going before me! :p
The first page of this thread has some really useful info before you go, might have some links to tickets for shows etc too.

Yeah actually thats how I booked the phantom of the opera tickets, through a link on here to broadway box!
Just to change the subject now... Does anyone have any reccomendations for sushi restaurants? Preferably not TOO expensive, as I have a budget of £1000 for a week (Would have been more but I was made redundant a fortnight ago!) - And I want to buy something from Tiffanys while I'm there!
