Really love all your projects and I like the dishcloth OrkneyStar, what a surprise for your mum, far too good for a dishcloth though, I would want to use it on my coffee table.

Well I have started on my granny squares for DD's blanket she so desperately wants, one quite time consuming square with the flower and one quite simple pattern, I haven't blocked them yet or sewn the ends in, so a bit rough looking..

Hi mumoftwo they are very pretty squares. A blanket like that will look lovely. Well done :)

A quick question for all your crocheting experts..

I am crocheting squares for a blanket and have lots of different balls of DK yarn. But I find that they still differ in thickness and the same patterned square comes out much more delicate and smaller than another. I know that blocking them into the right size is needed but there is quite a noticeable difference in thickness of the square as well.
I thought that if you had Double Knitting yarn it would be the same thickness. Is it better then to stick to the same brand of yarn?

    What is your experience?

I've found exactly the same thing Mumoftwo. I assumed all DK would be the same thickness, but it aint. For some kinds of work this doesn't matter too much, my ripple blanket for instance is being worked in several different brands of DK but it hasn't affected the overall appearance. For granny squares though it may be more noticeable. Do try blocking them, it makes a huge difference and you can stretch the smaller ones out more.

    Hello ladies,

As a novice crocheter can I please pick your brains.

I want to make the Attic24 Granny's Flower Patch Cushion (http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2009/01/crochet-wip.html) and was wondering if it would work with Rowan Bamboo Tape here: http://www.kempswoolshop.com/wool_details.aspx?selectedItemID=137015296

I really love the colours and obviously it's a great price!

    Thank you :D

Personally I'd make it up first, trying to alternate the thinner and thicker ones like a chequerboard, then block the blanket as a whole, that way they will all sort of settle in together iyswim.

I don't see why you shouldn't use the Rowan tape, but I'd do a bit of googling first as all the tape type yarns apparently stretch really badly after you've made them into something - jumpers round knees and that sort of thing! I've never used one so can't speak from experience but have seen these comments around.

Other than that, go for it - you can crochet with anything really!

Followed the thread today and am now busy crochetting flowers with plans to make a cushion with them on for my favourite charity's summer sale - Bonnie Babies, they have done so much for me I do my best to payback their kindness. Oh and the flowers are addictive!
