hi there - well the square went well! currently doing the front of a cushion cover which is going well too.
How do you crochet circular blankets? I have loads of part balls of wool but i don't want to knit squares cos of how long it takes to sew them up..... not sure how to start or what size hook i should use. be grateful if anyone could help me so i can do one as my charity contribution.
thank you xx:rotfl:five children? I must be mad........ :rotfl:

I love the ravelry website. It has loads of patterns, great search facilities, photos, forums, the works. I bet you'll find a circle pattern. If I were making a blanket I'd use a 5mm hook as I'm quite tight with the tension. When I say 'I', that can mean 'we' or even 'he' :rolleyes:0

Right i have bought "some" crochet hooks yesterday. I went for the larger size although they are at home so can't let you know what number they are
I am going to watch youtube vids now but wondered
* The bigger the needle, the bigger the stitch and item - correct? (guessing)
* Can you use any kind of wool?
* Any hints or tips?
I have read this thread but thought I would ask for pointers......xA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Generally the larger the hook the larger the stitch, but it also depends upon your yarn. I'd have a play as it's easy to pull apart.
I quite often put two yarns together.
I'm a huge crochet fan, I do loads of crafts, but if I want a quick fix I crochet.
ATM I'm working on a blanket for my DD and I've just finished some snowflakes, a cowl and a pair of mittens for a swap.
I love ravelry too. I'm zombiecazz there too and there's a link to my blog, which I've just updates after an age.
ooh our Lidl have crochet hook sets in atm. 3 hooks for £1"A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0 -
Hi Zippy, just a couple of suggestions. Try looking in charity shops for crochet hooks, knitting needles and odd balls of yarn. You sometimes have to ask as they don't always keep them on display.
Have you looked at the Knit Your Square, Give Your Share group on here? I have found that really helpful and friendly.

Yeah mine were 75p i think but they had very little variety so i grabbed what there was - the pack of bigger ones .
What's ravelry?
Oh sounds lovely. I am crafty in a way (can knit not terribly well and customise clothes and transform some old beaten household objects) but crochet is completely new.
The more I'm reading, the more I'm finding out about different arts and crafts . EEK!
What was the first thing you crocheted then?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I have in progress a Ruffle scarf in the Double Knit Fantasy yarn with a gold thread in it from Lidl (£3.99 for 4 balls). Looks nice and sparkly. The hook I used to crochet that was pretty big (size 5).0

Thanks Ladykath, I sure will
I had knitting supplies to make a patchwork blanket (wanted one since I was a kid) but I gave all my stuff to a friend to cheer her up , so don't have any
Will probably go charity shop hunting this Saturday! woo hoooo!
Haven't looked in that thread yet - wasn't sure if I would overload myself? Will look later when home and confirm what size my hookies are.
Sorry Kath, missed your first post there - appreciate the helpx
Watched a couple of videos on youtube but they have had really annoying voices and it's put me off(and just seems confusing)

Good luck, I've no doubt someone will help.
Ravelry is an online community for Knitter, crocheters, spinners. You sign up and you can upload pics of your own stuff, queue up patterns from the ravelry database and look at things that other people have made.
I love it as I can keep track of all the stuff a knit or crochet. I can also find patterns I like and see each persons interpretation of them. It's amazing how an item can change, just by seeing it made in a different colour.
