Yes I crochet too. Love your items Mrs. Tine.

Over the years I've done many blankets, cushion covers, shawls, garments and doyleys. I also knit and used to sew a lot but the old hands don't cope so well with a sewing needle.

Such lovely things can be made so quickly and I agree, it would be a shame to see the skill die out, so keep going girls. I find if I do it in public there's always someone asking to be shown how. Spread the word.

My granny taught me to crochet over 30 years ago when I was in primary school - mum is miffed, as she never taught them to crochet at all! I used to make dolls clothes and granny square blankets and bags. Then I used to crochet my own bags with string yarn, but haven't done that in ages. I much prefer crocheting to knitting, as it's so much faster and you see the results pretty quickly!

The last thing I did was put a crocheted edge onto a baby blanket that my mum knitted for her first grandchild and my first niece.

Should really start doing some again.....
  • I've spent a lot of time in hospital this year, and now need a nebuliser four+ times a day.

I had to take up crochet again to preserve my sanity. Just got to get myself past the granny square stage now. Having had a wander on the web I know there is a lot of crochet information out there, it's just a matter of finding what I'm looking for.

just bought myseslf a crochet a scarf kit, thinking it would have instructions.... but as a beginner i didn't expect to have to be able to judge the tension and know what a 'treble' was! i expect i'm about to make a big mess, but those you tube clips are amazing (why on earth did i try google before coming to OS for a search?!).

Hi I used to be able to crochet years ago and had totally forgotten how to do it. I made my DD1 shawl for bringing her home from hospital and now it is the "poorly blanket" and although my "kids" are now 24 and 22 they still like this when they are off colour!:rotfl:

I have looked at the youtube tutorials and think it might be time to try again - you never know I might one day have to make one for grandchild! :rotfl:

    Thanks for the links!!!!

i've decided to crochet us a blanket/throw for the sofa, kept trying to start with squares but they kept going wavy and wouldn't lie flat so i've ended up doing it in stripes, probably made a mistake by making the stripe too long so it's growing very very slowely but can't figure out any other way of doing it.
