Don't forget that a lot of the tutorials online (and patterns) use American terms. For example, our triple crochet they call double crochet etc, so it can get a bit confusing if you've learnt using American sites and then try making something using a British pattern.

oh no! i've just done three lengths of a scarf doing what i thought was triple.... why would they make the terms different!! i guess as long as i do the same thing throughout it will look ok (and my stitches aren't really tight enough to make it the dimensions they think it should be!). i guess for a first go it'll be ok. so many things i never knew i didn't know!!

This reminded me that I tried some bamboo crochet hooks last year and they weren't slippy enough. I wouldn't recommend them.

I found that too. I also bought a set of the clear coloured plastic hooks but they have a seam running down the length of them where they were moulded which catches the yarn.

Now I've got a set of coloured metal (I like the colours!) hooks and they're nice. :)

I wrote a blog post about what I'm currently crocheting here if anyone wants to have a look.
  • My mum does crochet quite a lot. She usually goes to carboots if she needs any wool or new hooks or anything like that and she can usually pick up pretty much anything she needs for no more than £2. It's pretty good.

just thought I'd place a post to let everyone know that it's no longer grannies and money savers alone in their love for crochet. got a pleasant surprise the other day when i went to put some washing in my 11 yr old daughters room and found her crochet and knitting sitting on her dresser.

Turns out she'd been at my grans and found the needles and decided she wanted to do it. no idea what she's making but her stitches looked good to my untrained eye(all i ever managed was coasters and place mats lol) will let her see this thread when she comes home tomorrow and she can make use of the usefull posts. keep up the good work.
