I love the border although it won't lie flat. My tension could have done with being tighter for the border.0 -

Penny I used approx 15 x 50g balls. Difficult to be exact as I only used a little of some of the colours.
Carolinosourus the border is simply the 'granny stitch' -clusters of 3 trebles into the chain space round the edge of all the squares as if you were adding another round to a granny square. You should be able to see how it is formed in this bigger pic. Can you see how the first row of the border (the fuchsia pink colour) goes onto the edge of the grreny-blue corner square?
