artydoll, love your baby blanket. I really want to try this pattern, is it ripple stitch? I've looked online for tips, but it seemed so complicated.

Trust me, it gets better! See my post #386, also there's loads of videos on youtube, just bear in mind, what us Brits call double crochet, they call single crochet. So it's better that you google "single crochet youtube" or similar, otherwise you'll get vids for what we call treble/triple!

ETA: by 'they' I meant Americans!
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Where does everyone get there wool from please?

I like using natural fibres (cotton, cashmere, alpaca etc) and they're pretty expensive, but I've found that you can get bargains on ebay. Some sellers put packs of 10, 50g balls of Debbie Bliss or Rowan up for auction and they can go for as little as £13, but even if they get up to £20 odd, it's still loads cheaper as they're generally around £5 a ball normally.

You can also often find wool in charity shops, but I've found that it's usually acrylic.

I tend to use DK for my granny stuff. I find it's cheap and good. But anyhow. I'm on a budget LOL. A tight one @ that. I can get 100g of DK for about £1 off the market :).

I must (when I can post links ....don't know how to change that) take a pic of my granny square afghan I made a few years ago that's on my Bible bed. It's fabbo. So soft, done in check in 2 row granny squares. Love that afghan you made...it's so 70's :D. Lovely lovely lovely.

Currently still working on my semi log cabin afghan (bit complicated at first) which is going to take me yonks because I've just figured to cover Erme's greats £5 sofa (from the charity shop and that included other stuff and delivery :D) it's going to need about 3 afghans of the original pattern LOL.

By the way, know this is slightly off topic, but anyone any ideas for places to get a cheap pedal/power cable for a Janome Decor Excel 5124 sewing machine cos like I think I threw mine out in a mad moment and I REALLY need it to make my own clothes (out of duvets/curtains from charity shops :))....

DK just means double knitting. It refers to the thickness of the yarn not the composition. DK yarns will vary tremendously in price according to what they are made of. Pure wool and pure cotton will be way more than cheap acrylics or blends.

I've been using Rowan DK pure wool for my blanket. I love the range of colours. It aint cheap though.

Same with the Debbie Bliss range. The colours of acrylic yarns just don't seem very exciting.
  • My Latest Crochet project. It's a free pattern on Lionbrand ( need to join, but it's free and has loads of free patterns).
