There are some free patterns on Ravelry for small shawls. You just need to create your own login etc., and there are gazzillions of patterns to choose from!

Also Lucy has made some very nice blankets which could be made longer and thinner as a shawl - see

Look down the side of the page for her gorgeous patterns.

Hope you find something you like - happy hooking! xx :)

Has anyone made this gorgeous blanket? It's on my expanding to-do list! Step by step colour instructions as well. Love the shell pattern.

  • Hello all - I am pleased to have found this thread as I am a bit of a crochet addict. I tend to move between quilting and crochet (and loom knitting) and crochet is in the ascendant right now. I have made a couple of ripple blankets this past year (inspired by Lucy Attic 24) and also made everybody beanie hats, berets, gloves or socks this Christmas. I must confess to spending a fair bit on my hobbies but I maintain it is still money saving as I don't go out much and the blankets also keep me warm :) I am a big Ravelry fan (same user name on there) and have enough projects favourited to keep me going to Doomsday asd beyond.

I saw that this thread was first started in 2009 with the premise that crochet was a dying art - I think all these crafts are having a renaissance in the past few years.

That blanket is dreamy pennib...I don't know if I'd have the patience to do it though.
You must tell us if you decide to give it a go...hmmm I might just bookmark it myself just in case :)

I've just printed the pdf off. It is now going to be top of my 'To-Do' list. I am slowly getting back into crochet - that ripple blanket i started years ago WILL be finished this year. I even have a family member having a little girl who i think would appreciate it.

Just found this site which I thought might be useful. There are hundreds (if not thousands!) of free crochet patterns, mostly American, on there. If it can be crocheted it's on here :j.

  • Hi Everyone. Just found this thread. Can still remember being 11 & learning to crochet. Eternally grateful to my friends mum for teaching me. Have been hooked ever since. Will have to check out all the links you people have added. Thanks a million.

Hello everyone! I been checking on this thread for a while ;)

I have been into all sorts of crafts over the years but have always gone back to knitting and crochet and love crochet the best because you can see results so quickly :T I taught myself many years ago after reading up in books and magazines (I am right handed) however I do crochet as if I'm knitting with one needle but my projects do come out the same size and pattern. I tend to make blankets, cushion covers and perhaps the odd scarf but more recently have been making more fun things like bunting and brooches.

Bit frustrated at the mo as I've have tendonitis in my left wrist and my usual winter project in still sitting in the bag waiting :(
If we are making confessions then I too am an Attic24' oholic:):T
