I took up crocheting recently - I got a book from my local haberdashery along with a ball of wool but then realised that the wool was too expensive to waste so I nipped to a local charity shop and got a ball of aran wool for £1.
I keep trying to make squares but I do not know how I manage to do it but I always seem to make circles - could it be my vi that is causing this because I just do not know how I do it because it all starts off ok and then goes down hill after that:(0 -
Horace if you can post a pic someone can probably work out where you are going wrong.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

Hi Horace, even without the pictures it sounds to me as if you are not allowing enough space for the corners. If I have a one chain space between treble groups on the sides then I have a 2 ch sp on a corner between 2 treble clusters.
Once you have made the starting ring you will have 4 clusters with 1or 2 (whatever the pattern says) chain spaces. The next round each side will have 2 clusters and the extra chain on the corner.....next row 3 clusters and so on
The images on here are really clear- but the wording uses US terms= confusing! Just think "tr " when it talks about dc

I am a knitter! Wanting to crochet so ordered a hook the other day, I think I shall be returning here probably with some sort of dilemma!
I tried to do it with a hook I got on a magazine, got in a tizz as I am used to holding 2 tools and then it was slipping all over.
I just ordered a clover hook on recommendation so hoping this helps
Also with regards to yarn for other people who want to practise £land would be good and also B & M always have plenty of yarn in for £1.19 if you just want some for practising0 -
I would really like to crochet a nice open patterned scarf. I mean the sort where there's as much space as there is wool so you could wrap it around a few times. Could anyone recommend something along those lines, or even a book with similar scarfs in so I could have a go at a few?
I'm thinking that keeping my hands busy will keep them away from the biscuit tin and would save money on a few birthdays in the next few months.0 -
Have you looked on Ravelry?

Crochet Mice....... I absolutely loathe them with a passion! Got asked to make some for my sister to give as christmas gifts, 6 weeks they took to make, and looked absolutely rubbish! They looked so simple to make and took so so long! Think I need to practice more!Member for a long time only recent poster
