Hi all,
mrsCD I've decided to chill about how I hold the hook. After watching quite a lot of you tube videos I think we all do it differently and lots of people do it like me where you hook the wool over rather than picking up with the hook. You never know I may start a new style:cool:
My stuff's not perfect, but then neither am IAt least I know that no-one else will have the same item, and so long as I'm happy with it, so what if it's a bit wonky or something
I have been inspired by Lucy at attic24 to make some bunting. My pattern is slightly different to hers, but it works for me. I'm doing red, white and blue, because you never know when I might come over all patriotic!
I've also got a new cardigan to crochet, when I get around to it2025 Fashion on the ration

Hi all,
Thanks for the help!
So far I have made a large pink ribboned throw, commissioned for someone who offered to pay me £25 for making it! That just about covered costs which is fine by me! Also made a small version of it for my niece!
Now I am making a large grey throw for my sister, and then on to make some more baby blankets. I am so proud that I have made something that people are willing to pay for!Member for a long time only recent poster
***THANK YOU***
To all those who post comps, no wins yet though!0 -

Hi ladies I wondered if I could ask a quick question I haven't crochet for years but having just discovered I'm pregnant I would love to make a blanket out of granny squares. I just wanted to know what size crochet needle I should buy, I guess I will just use a normal weight wool if there is such a thing
thank you

I would think a 4.00mm hook will be ok if you are using the dk acrylic yarn that you can buy in charity/cheapy shops0 -
Thank you I'll pick myself up some cheap wool and a hook this week0

I learnt to crochet using the internet. I also knit. For a great crochet bunting pattern try Moogly. You can also get a pattern for letters to go on it. : there are lots of free patterns and tutorials on Moogly. Also for help with knitting and crochet join knittingparadise its free and I have found lots of useful info from people around the world.
The only thing you have to remember with finding crochet patterns on the internet is that UK terminology and USA terminology is different. If the pattern mentions SC (single crochet) then it is a US pattern as there isn't SC in UK crochet - its our DC.0 -
Have just started to make crochet flower embellishments. Great fun. Sandra0

I have crocheted since my teens. I taught myself from an old book of my mum's. Since I retired I have done lots more. Good patterns are hard to come by here in the U.K., so I have digital subscriptions to Crochet World and Crochet magazine from the USA. There's also a free email 'Talking Crochet, that you can sign up for. They are great sources of patterns and ideas, but beware the American stitch notations are different from ours, though not a problem when you get your head round them.
I recently decided to make a photo log of some of my recent makes, but when the bed totally disappeared under them I decided perhaps my hobby was getting out of hand!;) I took some pictures for flikr and hid them all away again!0 -
I've been crocheting since my twenties and am now in my 60's. For blankets I either start with a granny square and keep going til it is 3' or 4' square, or do two big granny squares, sew them together then use them as the centre of an oblong blanket - single bed size or bigger.....only cos I hate the "sewing squares together" bit at the end of the blanket. Have done a load of blankets for old folks homes in Belarus thro Samaritan's purse - they use them as shawls during the day and bedspreads at night, so I made them in the brightest colours I could find. I now make scarves that fit in shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child - plus have made flower brooches with crocheted flower, button centre and safety-pins stitched at back. We have a Knit n Natter group started at our church a couple of months ago, going great guns - making baby clothes for Baby Basics - knitting little stuffed elephants for a blind organisation, even angel dresses for still-born babies for the local hospital. We all used to sit at home alone doing all this stuff - and now have a super time chatting, exchanging ideas and patterns, and are teaching anyone who wants to learn to crochet or knit. Can recommend the getting together route for those who can get out, and a link to the housebound in the community for patterns, wool, etc, which we have donated by those who can afford it, or those who want to help but can't knit or crochet.0
