HMO gorgeous cardigan do you have a pattern or a link
Tenyearsago I so love your blanket

Louisa I have a lot of trouble with tension, I think I hold the wool and needle a bit oddly therefore don't have a set tension. But have tried and tried with the classic style of holding and find it very uncomfortable and to be honest I don't enjoy crocheting, don't know wether to give up or keep to my own method. I tend to move my hands and not the needle, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone else have this problem or anybody got any ideas to fix this. Thanks Julie

  • Julie67, I'm here but have been busy with lots of crocheting recently. I'm doing my first ever online market place in a couple of weeks. Here are a few things I have been making - the granny blanket and matching hat are for a baby shower next week.

Wow. Box of Fluffies, they are lovely. I love anything done in chunky wool.

Well done Julie67. I've been making a granny blanket to leave in the car and with the wool that was left over, I made a bag to put it in! It's a sort of tube shape with a drawstring top. I've also knitted a hat with a pom pom on top for a shoebox later in the year!

I think as far as holding your hook and wool go, it's just a case of working out what works for you. Have a look at the different ways of holding both on you tube etc., and try them out... I weave the wool through my left hand fingers to keep the tension even, but I'm sure others will have their own way.

    Keep on trying :)

  • Can I join this thread please? I've been a lurker for a while but not taken part. I used to crochet a lot when I was younger but it got put to one side over the years. Now that I am retiring I would really like to get involved again even if just to keep my arthritic hands moving.

I've just got these links in an e-mail I subscribe to, and thought they might be useful for people who are relatively new to crochet

    finishing off
    weaving in
    Edgings

ETA - that's the first time I've ever tried to substitute a word for a whole link!!
  • I have spent an enjoyable few days reading back through all your posts and am very impressed by your standards. I've actually managed to get started making myself a bag from granny squares to keep my work in. Don't know how long it will take me to finish though. Thanks for all the inspiration.

    Hi all,

AOT sorry can't call you that:eek: welcome this is a lovely thread. I don't know what I would have done while I've been unable to move (having a leg op on 5th June thank goodness) I've dipped in and out of crochet unsuccessfully for the last couple of years but finally this time it seems to have clicked and have a few makes under my belt. I still get it wrong a lot but I don't care I really enjoy it.
I'm just going to start a beanie for my dh when he runs on the treadmill to hold his earphones in:D
    Thanks for the linksjustamum
mrsCD I've decided to chill about how I hold the hook. After watching quite a lot of you tube videos I think we all do it differently and lots of people do it like me where you hook the wool over rather than picking up with the hook. You never know I may start a new style:cool:

  • I'm sorry about the name Julie67 but I'm not good at that sort of thing and it's how I feel just now. Am having to retire early because of arthritis but am determined not to feel sorry for myself. I'm so glad to have found this thread as you all seem so encouraging and friendly. I used to make a lot of crochet things but its decades since I did anything so now feel like a complete beginner.
