Thanks for that. When I knit I use a bigger needle to cast on then use the needle they say ... do people do that for crochet too? As the cast on edge is very unstretchy I did wonder.

Thanks to this thread and the wonderful ripple blanket on the previous page I have spent 4 hours today looking at Attic24 and still not finished going through the archive. So addictive!

Hi Ninja, I nearly always start with a hook half a size bigger than the pattern requires, otherwise I find my first row is too tight. Oddly, when I knit I don't, I find my first row in knitting can be quite loose, but then don't knit very often, I'm far too slow. :rotfl:

Well Done Jessie15, it really does get hold of you doesn't it :rotfl::rotfl:I'm pleased you got on OK with the ripple pattern too.

If it's of any help, I bought a round feather filled cushion pad from Dunelm Mill to fill my Blooming Flower Cushion, it wasn't expensive either.

Looking forward to seeing the photos.

How many chains did you make for your ripple cushion Missmilly?

    Hiya,

I started with 84 + 3 for turning = 87. I calculated (very roughly!) that 28 chains (on the ripple) = 5" or thereabouts. I have a 16" square cushion inside my ripple, but I think it would look plumper with an 18" instead. More shopping................:rotfl::rotfl:

Oooops I accidentally ordered another pack (and some more too) from Masons this morning, oh dear ;)

Thats exactly how many i have started with, i am on the third row, it looks ok but I am still not entirely sure if i have the correct amount of stitches?? Just keep going i guess and see how it turns out, but wow that first row was awful to do.

i Have felt the urge for days to order more yarn, i have priced the Debbie Bliss that Lucy is using on her ripple blanket and it comes to around £75!!!!!!

The people I have spoken to seem to think it is a cheap hobby  I am going to have to start developing a love of acrylic ;)
