Bluebell they are really sweet. Good on you for not giving up. Maybe bootees, whichever pattern you use, are just fiddly to do and I need to persevere.
I did try again very late last night even though I said I wasn't and found this pattern...

and although I only made one as a trial, I think with a bit of tweaking, I could do it again a lot better. here is the one I made...don't laugh, remember it is after about 3 hours by this time and DD really didn't like the colours I'd used...
I get confused with the DC and then HDC and slip stitch is the same as SC isn't it????? No wonder they look odd when finished.
Anyhow I will make a pair of bootees and they will be wearableeventually.

bluebellbunny those little boots are just so cute - well done you.
dizzy well done for perseverence but sounds to me that you are confusing American and British crochet.
I'm not absolutely sure about this but I think an American single crochet equates to our double crochet, their double crochet equates to our treble. Our slip stitch would be written sl st not sc.
I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong but it might explain why you are having so much trouble.

That explains a lot bellaquidsin. I'll make double sure what my stitches are meant to be. So confusing!

Because I'm still new to crochet the stiches always confuse me. I've found this site to be invaluable when working a new pattern, mainly so I can make sure I'm not getting the stitches confused and also because they are well explained with videos."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

It depends on whether you are using British or American patterns. An American SC is the same as our DC - Britain doesn't use SC.0 -
Well another pair just finished. The link from kinkyjinks was an excellent resource and was going swimmingly well. Crocheted a pair from the link I'd posted and here they are...
Then guess what, whilst showing DD, she spotted I'd missed a row out just before the ruffle top row...now I have a headache. I think me and slippers are going to part company for a while now...I tried though and God loves a tryer
I'd love to see some more pics of everyones elses projects.
Happy hooking.
