  • You have to at least try to get a higher price, just as a matter of principle. Thats the law !!!!!!
In terms of whether it makes sense, the price you receive is only relative to what you pay out for the next house??
A combination of trying to get your sale price up a bit and the one your buying down a bit might be the best route.

I've just realised that Feb and March are council tax free months so I've transferred the £152 for Feb to the pay off the mortgage account and will do the same in March. :j

Still no sign of the mortgage statement from C&G - anyone got theirs yet? I think it took a long time to come last year!

30% below is taking the mick... at the moment the average is 12% below asking. I'd tell them you're prepared to go to 10% and expect to go as low as 15% max... but obviously your choice!
As for the place you're interested in, try offering less than asking as well based on you've had to take a hit on your sale, they can only say no. Then once everything is agreed, drop your offer by 5% and make your buyers up their offer by 5%, if you make sure you're the last in the chain to sign agreements then this tactic has maximum effect. Buying and selling should be done in a very businesslike way - after all, you'll be the one left with less equity and a bigger mortgage once you've paid estate agent's fees, stamp duty, conveyancing and moving fees. Good luck.

NO! That is a really nasty thing to do to everyone in the chain and ofetn means chains falling apart at the last minute. All negotiating needs to be done fairly before agreements are reached, unless a survey or such like throws something up.

Superfast gran, do everything in your power to negotiate the right deal now, but if that means accepting less than you'd like then go for it, because if your mobility is impacting on your life to that extent, then you want to be comfy in your old age. Fingers crossed - it's only money!

  • Hey finally the C&G's statement came through - what a weird feeling to be excited about seeing something in writing that (A) I already knew, (B) had confirmed on the phone and (C) my spreadsheet told me 2 months ago!!!
But, still nice to see a formal letter saying £50,000 paid back to them in 12 months:j:j:j
