If I saw a wee one in a Santa suit, i'd think it was incredibly cute.
I can't imagine anyone frowning on a child dressing up (not saying you're lying. Just can't imagine the kind of people that would do that kind of thing to a 3 year old).

well i was gobsmacked myself:confused: the nursery staff liked it and over moms, its old people round here..they are pretty horrible. i got told on the bus i should walk the kids to school the other week, it was snowing , ice on the ground, i had a buggy and a 3 year old and a 4 year old:rolleyes:

people are just plain ignorant somedays:confused:

  • My OH is a tattooist and body piercer, he loves pink! He has trainers that are baby blue and bright pink, he has a pink t shirt, a loud hoodie with pink in it, his tattoo machines have pink rubber bands as well as a pink clip cord! He is comfortable withn his love of pink, you can imagine the comments he gets from some customers but he just laughs back. He doesn't care. Our little one is going to turn one in March, he loves dolls so we have bought him a baby set including a dolly dressed in pink along with a pink pram, walker and cot. He plays with the toys he enjoys playing with, we have never and will never stop him playing with, wearing something he likes just because of the colour, pattern or gender conertations attached to it. He is frequently dressed in leopard print and has the most beautiful leopard print cosy toes on his pram. In the world today we should be teaching our boys to be intouch with both their feminine and masculine sides. Its the only way that they will truly be able to respect, undertsand and empathise with women and men alike. Let them wear pink shoes!!!

I'm totally looking forward to the day I get to go around Asda with my son dressed as spiderman/sportacus/a fairy and anyone who dares to frown will find out what words I learnt while growing up on a rough council estate ;) (while my hands are firmly covering my son's ears!)

I think Sami is right, as always!
  • He's four for goodness sake, let the little lad have his pink shoes.
I assume your'e frightened giving in to his need for his little pink shoes is encouraging his femininine side just a little too much.
Pink shoes or pink anything won't do that. It's a colour, nothing else.Seems the adults have a problem with it not the kids. Most 4 year olds I know of both sexes love pink, and at his age he'll soon grow out of his shoes anyway.
    Let him enjoy his childhood.

    ITA!!
Get him the shoes he wants, aslong as they are within your budget and he can enjoy them- they'll only last 4 months or so anyway! If it really is a disaster then a fairly cheap replacement can be found as a birthday/easter pressie quiet "backing down" till the next pair of "regular " shoes is due.

Had the opposite problem- with both my DDs at one stage the only shoes that fitted were "boys" ones and that was a bit of a challenge, though pointing out how practical they were for walking/playing in helped!

  • i understand that you think he may get teased, but if it isnt the pink shoes, then it is going to be his hair, or his coat, or how many toys he has got...etc.

That is soooo true! In fact, to be teased for what you wear is a much less hurtful thing, and a tactic that I have seen used at times by kids, that to be teased for who you are. You choose what you wear and can change it, who you are cuts to your very core:confused:

BTW my DS is 13 and 5'9" . His "posh" Xmas shirt this year is a fantastic rasberry pink and he looks totally lush in it. Gay or straight a pink shirt (or shoes) isn't going to decide that one!

  • My 5 year old DS loves pink! When we attended a christening as a family (prior to relationship breakdown), both his dad and himself wore black suits and pink shirts at his insistence! (Got DS a pink boys shirt from Adams, his dads came from Germany! He still wears his pink shirt even though it is getting a wee bit tight on him!
He now owns a pink t shirt (boys one!) which is his favourite, I wouldn't buy him a girls pink t shirt, or girls pink shoes, but would definitely buy him a boys pink version of shoes if he asked.
At home he happily wanders round in his sisters pink leotard and tutu and he wears my pink heels, though he is a little partial to my black heeled boots aswell! He also loves his guns and spiderman and power rangers too. I have no worries as I am sure it is something he will grow out of, and if he's happy I'm happy.

The shoes came a few days ago and he loves them. I will post a pic soon.

His dad loves them too and wants to know if they do them in his size. I remember now that he spray-painted his guitar pink in the 80's and also had a pair of pink cowboy boots, which he wore to death.

Since posting this thread and reading the replies I have been people watching and I never realised how popular pink was with boys/men, especially trendy teenagers.
  • I think I'd say let him have them. He will probably regret it when he's older, but that's something we all have to go through in some way or another. I must admit I'm quite partial to a bit of pink these days. Pink shirts go down well at work and I've found in the reasonably macho sports i take part in pink seems to get all sorts of attention!
