Ironing Day Blues!!

I am back to report progress (how sad am I):
- Made the tea, drank only one mug whilst sorting
- On sorting 99% needed ironing of which a small number of items have now been reclassified form clothes to dusters.
- Started with my own clothes
- Tricked a large basket of linen things into feeling 'just washed' by putting them in the tumble drier on hot along with a clean wet tea towel. This took out the worst of screwed up effect creases.
- Ironed & starched 4 linen dresses, 3 linen skirts, 1 linen trousers and 1 linen blouse.
- Reminded myself of the good points about linen ; very MSE - wears well, looks good, can be home laundered
- Ironed small assortment of tops
- Did not even look for the clothes hangers because that would mean opening the wardrobes (v.Scary).
- Year of the cat was good reminded self of lost youth.

Spirit,
I'mwith whoever said to iron as it comes from the machine...my DIL does this with my son's shirts...failing that sort your clothes as they come off the line, do the TD thing and hang up the rest until you are going to wear them...I buy very little now that needs ironing unless it is irresistable!

I must be unique, I like ironing! I like the smell of ironed clothes, and the satisfaction of seeing it all smooth!!
Saying that, I have two piles when I take it in off the line, ironing, and non-ironing. Into the non pile go underwear, pj's, towels, duvet covers and fitted sheets, and anything like polyseter trousers/blouses that don't need it. This usually more than halves the ironing pile.
I don't iron bedclothes except pillow cases, I do like a smooth crisp pillowcase! I also iron teatowelas because I read somewhere hat ironing sterilises them, but I really don't have a lot. I try and do it when it comes off the line too, there's nothing worse than looking at a pile of it for days!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I iron most things and break it into 15 min tasks so its not too daunting.
A wash goes in the morning (everyday - unless there is no more to wash) and then I do about 15 mins later on in the day after hanging them out.
The washing basket is usually kept low except the ironing board is a semi permanent feature in my living room.
Small doses for me0 -
My routine is to put the washingmachine on at 6am when I get up and hang it carefully out on the line (weather permitting). When I'm back from work, I fold it into a basket, take it upstairs and put it away, ironing any bits as I go (with music or a DVD in the background). If I don't put it away immediately a cat will sleep on it.
I do about 3 washes a week and refuse to iron DH's work shirts, so there's really not too much for me to handle. Once I get going, I find it quite satisfying. I do iron jeans when they come out of the washer as I've found this the best way to get the creases out.0 -
Great! It's not just me who hates ironing with a passion. I usually get my mum to do it. She comes round after work and for a bottle of wine, she'll do anything! Heehee!
Stopped doing that now cos it seemed to be the only reason she was coming round. Did a huge load on Sunday which took me four hours! In front of EastEnders (noticed it wasn't just me who did the ironing of front of EastEnders!).Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

good luck with the rest of it anyway:Dto be updated:;)0 -
Thanks everyone - Carmen - please what is a steam generator iron thingy ?
The T shirts went in the hot tumble drier (along with the clean wet Tea Towel) and when they came out shook them and folded them and they look just ironed - wonderful.
One basket to go, mainly DD's . I feel so much happier now.
Just got to try the recommended routines now for staying on top of it.

I used to iron everything apart from undies (I know ,I can't quite believe it myself) but sometime during the summer holidays I saw the light ... now I hang it all out on the line and take it down when dry, sorting into iron and non-iron pile; after all four peoples weeks worth of washing, I now only have ten things to iron ... which I can do when DS is in the bath, so I can chat and keep an eye on him at the same time. That's Numberwang!0
