Ironing Day Blues!!

Just straight into the big tumble dryer at the laundrette (£3 will dry 6 loads of laundry) or on to the line on hangers in the summer. Neatly folded & put away. Anyone who doesnt like it knows where the ironing board is (presumably, although they might not as i have never seen any one else touch it)

I hate the ironing to pile up so I always start at around 6pm on a Sunday and battle on until it's finished. It's great because I get to choose what's on the tele - no play station or kids rubbish, no football! - just taped ER or sometimes a dvd. It's such a great feeling when it's finished and cleared away and we're all set for the week. Small reward afterwards - preferably alcoholic. Great way to get ready for the week ahead.

Towels are just not the same if not dried in a Tumble...excluding Lenor Spring Awakening!0

Have to admit I only iron if it's really urgent. Usually dear hubby does it all whilst watching sport on TV and complaining about having to turn all my clothes the right way out. I don't complain about him watching sport on our only TV (surprise surprise). Hopefully DS will learn this important task from his dad.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

I loathe ironing and have 3 baskets full of it.
Pre my LBM I suncontracted out this chore to a very nice lady but we must now do it in ourselves. OH has been keeping it up together but he has been away and I am in charge.
I have been carefully avoiding the baskets all week but I have just hung out a line of washing and OH is home tonight and I do not want to dump this backlog on him.
I need two thing please:- Urgent advice on tackling the backlog.
- A laundry routine that includes ironing (I cant seem to make one up on my own)
Thanks0 -
Anyone who's a regular on here will tell you that me and ironing don't mix. I hate it with a passion.
When I get to the stage you're at (which is quite often) I try to minimise what needs ironed by sorting it out and looking at it properly. Anything I can get away without doing I fold neatly and put away (usually pjs, tea towels and towels) Then I set the board up with a good telly programme and a large [strike]bottle[/strike] glass of wine  and don't stop till it's gone. Sometimes I do it on a Saturday morning while watching Saturday Kitchen and just swap the wine for coffee.(Honest)I do make various half hearted attempts to iron as soon as the clothes are dry, thus averting the "mum why won't the spare room door open?? " "Cos the entire contents of all our wardrobes are lying in a heap on the floor in there darling." conversation.... but I can never stick to it.
Do what works best for you but little and often is probably the most sensible.;)0 -
My sister has ironing dvd's - chick flicks specifically reserved to reduce the monotony of ironing.
Personally, I put it all away as soon as it is washed - hanging up removes some of the creases - and then just iron as and when I need itWorks for me.

I know that people say that you should only listen to a CD or the radio whilst ironing, but - being a film fan - I use it as an opportunity to work through my video/DVD collection.
If you've got a real backlog, I suggest "Gone With The Wind" or the restored cut of "Lawrence of Arabia"!The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Hiya. A tip I picked up from here is to iron as soon as it comes out of the washing machine. This seems to make the ironing easier to do and then the clothes dry quicker afterwards.Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03
