Ironing Day Blues!!

I iron most days, it only takes about 20 mins and I listen to the radio while i do it. I couldn't stand piles of ironing/washing about the house. i find that its like housework, you just need to keep on top of it and it never gets too bad.
I also don't iron unnecessarily, dont do bedding except pillowcases, no towels or teatowels, no underwear at all and if i use the TD I fold everything to save on ironing. The only things I do iron are my 2 boys white, cotton school shirts  which are a pain and my tops for work.
Ocassionally my mum comes to see to our 3 dogs while I'm at work(full time) and she irons for my but she does everything from pants, socks to towels and sheets. :j
Like MATH I quite like ironing, its very satisfying to see a lovely ironed pile of clothes (sad or what)
Do what you love :happyhear0 -
My advice:
Get a husband who can ironThats what I did. I wash & dry, he irons.
Perfect deal me thinks :rotfl:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
frosty wrote:we used to have one of these presses,my son asked me if he could do the ironing (he was about 11 at the time)I thought well he should be ok and I got on with some other jobs around the house,he shouted that he had finished all the ironing and when I went to see what a good job he had done I could of cried, the first item he had ironed had a school logo on it and it had left an imprint on the top of the press, so every item he ironed after that had this logo stamped on it,my husband had my sons school logo on his jeans it was on sheets, towels . :rotfl:
Thanks for making me laugh so much. I know the feeling when kids offer to "help " out.
Regarding steam generator irons. I have a Polti reduced at Makro. It is very good, but they take about 10 mins to heat up and then you have to wait to put it away until it cools down...btw...my youngest put Lenor in the water tank!!!!I tend to use a Rowenta Professional Luxe for quickies. It's also a good idea to invest in a decent ironing board. It's make a lot of difference.
I used to be pretty obsessed with washing and ironing. But now I only wash the sheets every two weeks and haven't noticed a difference. But towels are once per week. Like other peeps I tend to drip dry a lot of my stuff and I wash and iron the kids uniform...2 boys...once a week. For smalls I use the dryer.0 -
I hate ironing and at the moment I am in the dining room on the computer surrounded by piles of it waiting to be done!! I will have to iron something to wear for work tomorrow so might try and do a bit more but just too fed up to tackle anything at the moment. House a complete pigstye, not a clean cup in the house but I don't give a toss I am depressed!!!Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I hate dusting...just can't see the point.I occasionally get out Henry.
My mum gave me some great advice when my eldest was born.
"The housework will still be there when you are in your grave"
Quentin Crisp had the right idea.
As we are on a ghoulish subject another of my mother's sayings is: " There are no pockets in Shrouds" :rolleyes:0 -
I also have an ironing press and its definately cut my ironing time by half (now Ive got used to it that is)
I would never give this up and if it broke on me I would definately immediately go and buy another one - I used to get back ache with a normal iron but not any more.
I wont do ironing daily but every other day. If theres something on telly I like I do my ironing then as I can justify sitting down and watching telly during the day.0 -

I dont do ironing! Everything is washed in easy iron conditioner - dried on a airer, folded and straight in drawers. I dont think the clothes need it after that routine. We have 3 kids after 4 so i wouldnt feel safe ironing while they are awake and once they are asleep theres other things i need to do! I iron my husbands shirts and trousers for the week on a sunday night before climbing in to bed!
Some people say - oh my god, dont you feel scruffy! (charming!) others say, how do get your clothes looking so tidy wothout ironing?
Whatever works for the individual i suppose!0
