Ironing is a religious experience in our house - it is done on Sunday and OM sounds like he is praying when he keeps muttering 'Oh God'. He irons his, I iron mine, the kids can go crumpled, iron their own or trade with me so I iron and they clean etc.
We only had 2 tiny Luxes when I came to my senses. I was back at work with a 2 hour bus commute, and was trying to cook and clean in the evenings. OM was sitting watching TV while I stood and ironed ...
it did turn into one of those 'why didn't you ask me?' conversations that scorch the ceiling and keep the neighbours interested, but it cleared the air.
He has ironed without being asked for the last 18 years. No, it's OK - he is human!
My mother was famous for not ironing sheets or towels when we were small so I am proud to follow her example, but I love spray starching - the smell is so clean and things feel good.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
ooh what do I iron.. oh.. hubbys work shirts and the odd little pretty dress!!!
I can't see why anyone in their right mind would willingly iron anything that doesn't need it.
It comes out of the washing machine, onto line/into dryer/onto hanger.. dries.. and is put away!!!
I do about 10 items on a Saturday.. usually every other Saturday.. or when I can't get to the yummy food because there is washing hanging on the cupboard.
As for 3 baskets.. I'd load all 3 into the car or onto the buggy and go straight to the nearest charity shop and dump the whole lot.. then go nbuy stuff that you don't ever need to iron.
Linen is the biggest hugest absolute no-no when it comes to ironing haters.. closely followed by silk.. evil stuff!!! 100% cotton is pretty bad unless it says easy care/easy iron on it. oh and viscose is another baddie.

Some of us are just not designed for lycra, but I think you have just found a way to motivate me to iron.
"Iron or wear lycra" OK I' m off to do some ironing.0 -
I have evolved a system over time which involves trying to get what needs done asap after washing & drying. Inevitably it doesn't work..and the basket piles up! At that stage I do whatever's needed for the next few days, plus an extra 15minutes worth. Amazingly after a few sesions like that the backlog vanishes. 15minutes is a really useful stretch of time for many tasks!Resolution:

I used to ENJOY:eek: my weekly ironing session in front of the tv... until I moved in with my now DH and realised that 'my' ironing pile had tripled because of the quantity and size of his clothes (not that he's fat, he's just bigger than me lol).
Now, for environmentally friendly purposes;) and to save my sanity I fold everything from the line and put it away. If that's not crease-free enough for him he can get the iron out himself and do it. A few things like my linen skirt and his shirts have to be ironed, so they go into the ironing basket to be ironed when needed. Or when I hear the cry of 'where have all my shirts gone?' I might iron them for him in exchange for eternal gratitude and cups of tea. The mysteries of laundry are lost on my otherwise fabulous DH: he once washed a load of sheets at my request, I came home from work and found him wrestling with a giant duvet cover which had swallowed the pillow cases. He had ignored my instruction to do up the duvet cover before washing, the whole lot ended up wet on the filthy kitchen floor and needed to be washed again. Sigh  .0 -
Hi
I absolutely cannot stand ironing but recently I have got a tumble dryer and I love it. I iron pretty much nothing - I think I got the iron out once in the last month - and that was only for one item.
Is there anyway that I can get away with not ironing our clothes without using the dryer all of the time?
Any tips would be most appreciated.
thanks0 -
Can't really offer any tips because I'm just the opposite and love ironing. I'm that sad I even iron knickers and teatowels. Think I'm a bit weird because I also love cleaning windows. Find ironing and window cleaning very good for reducing stress levels. I'm sure you'll get plenty of tips on how to avoid using tumble dryer so often. I don't own a tumble dryer any longer and in decent weather dry all my clothes on clothes line. Many could be folded flat and not ironed.0

I hate ironing too! I've found however, that using a tumble drier really creases the clothes, far worse than when I don't use it.
I must be doing something wrong, I've always wondered why people say they don't need to iron after using a TD.
ETA, When not using a TD, I just give the clothes a good shake when I get them out of the machine and fold them before hanging them up.0 -
I am useless at ironing, and I also hate it!! My fear of burning whatever I'm ironing usually means I can't get creases out anyway. =/0
