I bl**dy HATE ironing (family of five and the ironing was 'my' job every sunday from about age 12:()

Knew the writing was on the wall in previous marriage when I used to iron to avoid going to bed at night in the hope OH was sleeping:o.

However it was actually easier to live with when I was single and doing what I needed every morning for work than it is now.

I force myself of Sunday's and give OH an extra cuddle coz he works in the building trade and only adds max two items to the [STRIKE]mountain[/STRIKE] pile.

My Granny taught me - starting on their undies and tea-towels......and socks:eek:....I'm still traumatised as you can probably tell.

I'm with you OP, I can't see your sister's logic at all. I would hate to have cupboards and wardrobes full of creased clothes. And it would stress me out to have to get the ironing board out every time I needed to go out. She is wasting a lot of time by doing it this way too.

But they are not screwed up clothes they are just folded clean clothes that may need an iron wizzing over them?!..like my dh just said it takes about 20 secs if that..a whole pile of all our clothes would take hours each night. My ironing board is always up so not a prob either. I feel i am wasting no time at all as get more constructive things done!

    I iron & put away.

I'm a bit OCD too & I would hate to put crumpled clothes in the wardobes:o

Plus I'm not that fond of ironing that I want to do it every morning:eek:

I get mega pee'ed off when DD 'frantically' looks for something and I open her drawer/wardrobe next day and find a crumpled pile of stuff I slaved over at the weekend. Make's for an interesting wee discussion

I'm another iron hater! I iron only what I have to... DD is at the stage she likes to dress herself and empties the entire contents of her drawer on the floor to find that one top :o

Definatly an iron only shirts/uniform person! My friend and gran on the other hand iron socks etc! madness!! Either that or they are very bored with alot of time on there hands!

Lol exaclty my point with my dd and dh at times grr! why bother i say!
My friend actually pays me to do her ironing that is THE only time i will stand there doing it for longer than 5 mins..then it sits in her room for weeks getting crumpled again..logic?!
  • I used to be an iron on the day person when it was just my husband and I, but now we are four I have to do in bulk, there is no way I would have time to iron in the morning, and with young children I have to iron when they are in bed, or out.

I can't understand some of my friends when they say they don't iron at all. My stuff is creased no matter what I do with it in the wash.

I don't do undies, pjs, bedding, etc, I do the t-towels as they get a blast of hot to make sure they are completely clean. I try not to do much of my children's stuff but as they are getting older they are starting to need more.

You know sis you could have ironed most of it in the time it took you to post this?!!!

You could have emptied the wrinkly clothes from your drawers and done them too :p

I rarely iron anything. I have certain shirts for work that need ironing, but I iron them as I wear them. I couldn't imagine ironing a 'pile' of washing on a sunday the thought of that makes me

People are always shocked when I say I never iron - I don't look like I rolled out the washing basket by any means :rotfl:. I just hang things up VERY carefully and then they don't need to be ironed!!

When I say pile, it's a maximum of about 10 things though. I only iron what needs doing, so my work trousers, shirts/tops and maybe a few other 'bits'. I certainly don't iron socks/underwear, that's bonkers!

Seriously, how do you have the time and why do you do this!!!! My friend is the same and although I love her to bits I do think she's a little insane :)

I probably make more work than I need to as I iron pj's, knickers & undies, socks, bedding a tea towels - which some people think is strange. :o

See why?!!! really i have quite a bit of spare time at the mo as not working much but i would have to be seriously bored to do the above![/QUOTE]

But if the ironing board is out, and you have a big pile of ironing, it doesn't really add that much time to do the knicks, socks & pj's! And everbody gets a better nights sleep in ironed pj's (don't they!). :rotfl:

Plus, everything looks so much neater in the wardrobe/drawers in a neatly ironed pile. :o

I'll agree with you on this one sis (but only this). Although Ihave to admit to sometimes ironing pillowcases as if they are slightly creased, I think i'll wake up with creased cheeks (of the face :p)

    Whats an iron

Haha, I didn't use to iron when I lived at home, and no, not because it was done for me. We had a washing line and tumble drier so I found things dried a lot 'flatter'. I now live in a flat with no outside space or a tumble drier, so things have to be dried on an airer or over doors and I do find that they get creased more easily this way.

Ditto. The thought of opening a drawer and not being able to wear it there and then would annoy me.

I wouldn't do it every morning, I can guarantee it. I've come to terms with the fact that i'm a night owl, so I could go and do it all now (will I though? :p) but in the morning I leave so little time to get ready, i'd end up going to work with either creased clothes, or naked

I put all the clean washing in baskets and occasionally iron something that I want to wear. A couple of times a year I go through the pile, take some of it to the charity shop and feel happy that the baskets have got smaller!
