But won't you be eligible for a state pension too? Assumming they still exist when you retire? I didn't think a private pension wiped this out?
No of course it doesn't. I have paid NI contributions for almost 40 years. That gives me 'entitlement ' to the state pension and I would be stupid not to take it.
It is a fairly small part of my income, and most of it is given to charities I support and our grandchildren via monthly standing order. I was saying I have no need of anyone providing for me now I am retired. I have made the required provision for myself.
My point was that I do not rely on the state to provide me with funds for my retirement anymore than they funded me to have children. Apart from the universal child benefit of course. We should all make provision for ourselves and it sounds as if the OP has been in a position to do that but chose not to.0
