If its just a video tape I'd use normal airmail. by in large they get there by 5 fays. if you want it assured you'll have to pay an extra £5 fro airsure.

the people im sending it to have advised not to use standard mail as the canadian postal service is unreliable! if sent via airsure does it end up with canada post?

HAve you looked at the guide on the first page?

I expect with transglobal it would be around £17 with DHL.
  • Hello, any help would be great -

I need to send valuable electric guitar (£500)
    West Sussex to Cornwall. Weight 11kgs, 1054 x 413 x 140cms.

Having trouble finding quotes as either parcel too big/heavy/companies do not cover musical instruments/ unable to provide enough insurance cover.

Only quote I have been able to get is from parcel to go at "£50 to £70" - I used the live chat facility.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I've had more expensive Parky Fly guitars sent over to me from the States, ultimately delivered to my door via Parcelforce (couriered US side by UPS) - as long as its well packed, its irrelevant whats inside - just make sure there is adequate insurance. Also, 11kg is nothing to most couriers, so it doesn't make sense that they'd say its too heavy. If in doubt, just use Royal Mail Standard Parcels and ask for extra insurance up to £500 - in my experience Royal Mail is good with breakables. Don't bother mentioning whats inside, it's more hassle than its worth. The insurance does pay out - I sent a guitar effects unit to Italy, it never arrived at the other end (or maybe the recipient was being economical with the truth) - I simply made a claim and payment was recieved pretty quickly - all I had to do was prove what the item was roughly worth (if its an ebay item they check the listing).

This is from Royal Mail site for standard parcels:
You can send parcels up to 20kg in weight. Parcels must be no longer than 1.5 metres, and the combined length and girth of your item must not exceed 3m.

BTW £500 cover on Standard Parcels is an extra £3.50 ;)

thanks for that, just did a quote online - £17.56 inc £500 compensation and Royal Mail are apparently ok with musical instruments. Fab, much better than £50-£70!
