Well DS2 has been installing the new hard drive and it is SO much faster :D We haven't yet copied over all the files, I think that is a job I'm saving for Popeye when he gets here in 2 1/2 weeks :j:j
House is still a tip following DS2 and DD's decampment from uni. And they've brought with them their own special way of draining money from me _pale_
DS2 can eat for England, actually he could probably eat England. And he is so parsimonious at uni where he isn't running up debt that I feel like rewarding him with good home cooked meals :rotfl:(he knows which of my strings to pull ;))
DD and I have been working on her finances, and finally last night we:
transferred her 17%/23%/12% APR debts to Popeyes empty cc on a 6.9% BT (and I haven't told Popeye yet :D:rotfl:)
We have set up a standing order from her current account directly to the card, but I will still monitor that payments are received ;)
More importantly she is to close the account whose overdraft is being cleared and cutting up the 2 cc's which are being cleared. :money:
And in addition to the £50 paying off the new credit card balance she will reduce her overdraft by £50 each month. It is currently at 0% but that offer expires in 2 years time.
In December she will have to start paying off her graduate loan so needs to reduce her other debts in order not to be paying out more than 50% of her income.
I am astonished at what she spends on her social life.

She was surprised that if she paid this debt off at £50 a month with a 0% card it would take her 8 1/2 years  She had been thinking that she could "just transfer it to 0%" ad infinitum. It was a shocker to discover that not only are those deals no longer available, but they wouldn't look at lending to her with no income, and it would stilll be years of debt. So we've come to an agreement that:
    • when she has more income she pays more off.
    • if she wins money on the lottery or Premium Bonds, she uses 50% of it to pay off debts
    • she tolerates me checking up on her -"what do you owe on credit cards?" at regular intervals.
She has been saying "it's YOU worrying, it's not a problem, everyone has debt....." So this is only a flickering LBM, I may regret this generosity, :o but I didn't want her sinking further into debt. I'm hoping that as she sees the debt come down she may be inspired to cut her spending in order to speed that up.........
She has tried budgets, but like me, if she is too strict, trims everything back and vows not to go out, not to buy anything and give everything up, she lasts very little time before she's bursts and spends madly. :o I'm hoping little successes will spur her on.

(she's doing a Boot Fair at the weekend :rotfl:)

Got my insurance payout for the freezer contents.

So how best to use Sainsbury Vouchers to the value of £255

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

She has a 2 week temping job starting next week, we'll see if she needs to spend 100% of her earnings.
*and she borrowed £10 from me last night :o

As for Jamie Oliver - *I wish* :p

I think I've decided to budget £25 per week for 10 weeks. And build the contents of the freezer gradually from my usual meal cooking as before. Though the apple trees are laden this year so I'll need room for that too. :D

MoT many congratulations on your news :j:j:beer:

Can't believe it is really a year
Haven't we been a couple of slack Alices, not actually meeting up, though we're so close? Many apologies. Love to I-T and hope you and yours are well?

    Thanks Olive :j!!!

I-T is well and still waiting for first dose of radiotherapy but should be soon - fingers crossed! Although, he had news of something else to worry about y'day - he had an MRI scan back in March for dizziness and hearing loss in one ear - that scan has showed up something else and he has to go for more MRI investigations next Thursday .

The twins are fine, although DD is bored stupid at the moment - DS doing a summer camp this week and she didn't want to go - maybe tidying her bedroom will become an interesting option then :rolleyes:.

My back has been awful but is feeling marginally better, so perhaps we should pm each other for our meet - what do you think?
