So here is my plan for valentine's card: glossy paper folded, photo of us printed on that - the front, instead of buying red lipstick - gonna use my regular shade and then sprinkle red sprinkles over, use glue and sprinkles for the hearts. Then have to compose some lovely little poem and that'll be it. And gonna bake chocolate cake and wrap it round with red ribbon that i saved from some x-mas present.
For everyone who is spending and not being "thrifty" - I wouldn't worry - if you can afford it - that's fine. The trouble starts when you cannot afford it.
So for my forward planning - in case i loose my job, I made a little plan.
I am already looking out for jobs in my area (so to save on travel costs), collect all my receipts (so I can see exactly where the money goes), budget for food, toiletries and cleaning products, gas+petrol, stopped all the subscription services such as magazines, sky tv, only have one ip, watching the electricity and heat use (turn off lights, got rid of the electric kettle, hairdryer and hi-fi, the heating is carefully selected on everyday needs). Basically, watch "every penny" I spend - do we need to buy this or the other? Being clever with cooking - buy fresh food (make meals, batch cooking - then freeze) - and have as little food waste as possible (this website http://myzerowaste.com/ helped me to think before I buy anything - not only because of the waste that would go to the landfil but also food waste - therefore plan meals and buy accordingly). I have so much going on that i can't even fit it all in here but I hope these ideas might help someone. What I really wanted to say is that if you spend for pleasure and you can afford it - that's great!!! Even though i am being quite "tight" for now - I am hoping that if it comes to worst - we'll be provided for for at least 5 months. And gardening is good fun :-) , even though it's snowing right now, I am in the midst of sowing my peppers and tomatoes, and some trailing flowers for the hanging baskets in dh's shed.
  • Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into things Aurora, have bookmarked the website to have a proper look later, sounds very interesting.

Were you doing all the quizzes/crosswords as well PLM, lol. Hope you get a nap this avro, after you've got back from Lush & had a soak of course :D

PLM it's catching! I read on the Boots thread that someone had bought the lee stafford set (hairdryer, straighteners and brush in a case) for £17.xx. the SEL was £34.99 but it had gone through at £17.xx. I thought that would be good for travelling everything in one bag instead of being in plastic bags in the boot of the car. I went to Durham this afternoon, SEL said £34.99 till said £68.xx:eek: it wasn't £17 like I expected but I bought i anyway:eek: they did put it through at £34.99! and only yesterday I was telling OH that we can't spend much more this month:eek:

Theres allways the exception to the rule and the Lee Stafford set was just that exception, and it saves haveing the plastic bags rolling around the boot! x:rotfl:

jammy - you'll have many successful years ahead if you talk about things like you have and sort them out quickly like you have - congrats you're on your way to a normal happy marriage. We all have arguments and 'irks'(I like that word) but the secret to lasting is to talk and share everything...

I am cooking hubby his fave meal from the pub we used to work in which is where we first met - might put on our wedding music and I got some of those valentine crackers from asda...

and I guess there'll have to be some nooky later on...
    I think we'll officially start trying on valentines...so I guess there'll have to be:rotfl:

Scattymum - so we could be hearing the patter of tiny feet then!! Is this the lucky thread, makes a change from the lucky office chair!!

Jamtart - Glad u and mr Jamtart 2 b, got things sorted, they say moving house is one of the most stressful things, but your working through the house together thats brilliant.

Dont know what state the house is, but can you do something there on a valentine nature, deck the front room in some fairy lights / candles, few scatter cushions or rug on the floor, then (not very mse) but order his favourite take away, guessing from ur other post no tv there, but you said u could watch a dvd on the computer, whats his favourite film, and wht ever you do dont discuss anything to do with the house. If hes the centre of attention, that will make him fell like a special guy.
Also what about gettin (Poundland), book of iou vouchers or design your own.
Dont do a Scattymum on us..........xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
