yes, you only need a light behind the board to find the testpoint, when you know where it is you only need the light point towards the front so you can see what you are doing.

the "solder blob" as you call it is a through hole, it joints a track from the top of the board to the bottom of the board. i no its not easy, but when you know where you need to cut just push the scapel down, it may not work first time (not cut) some you will have to push a bit harder. 90% of the time it takes me 2 or 3 times.

Thanks for the great advice, I'm feeling quite confident now :)
I'll make the cut and try the unlock....

I made the cut, popped the A62 back together it booted up.
Popped a SIM in working fine.
Then I took the SIM out.
Found the COM port connect the cable to this and the other end to the A62.
Windows says I have 2 com ports COM1 and COM2.
In SST Pro 5.38 I selected E-Gold A65, Test Point Boot.
Clicking any action I tried Unlock changes the status to Power On
I press the Power button on the phone and the SST says "Entering Boot mode" and then no change even after 12 minutes....

During this power on when the Phone is connected to the PC, The display on the phone stays off. Settings are Com1 115200 (also tried ay 57000 to see if it was a serail speed issue same result)

I'm not sure what the problem might be. Is there a way of testing the serial cable? It is labelled SL55, I assume the COM port on the PC works I've never used it before.

It is possible everything is working I've just not made the cut deep enough?
Not sure how to tell if the CUT has worked. You mensioned that 90% of your A62 need another attempt at the cut?

I was going to ask for advice before taking the scalpel out again.

you need to choose normal boot not test point boot thats for grounding a testpoint on newer x65 series phones. when it says entering boot mode, if the bar doesn't move across then the testpoint is not cut correctly.

Thanks I've cut the testpoint and the phone works with the SIM etc.

But I'm still left at the "Entering Boot Mode" message even after selected normal boot.

Could it be the software or the cable? I've not used the COM port on the PC so that might be at fault. But when I press the power button on the phone the software seems to know I've press it as it changes from "Power On" to "Entering Boot Mode"

How quickly does the bar move?

Will functions like the read info work on a locked phone? I suppose that would proove if the cable and PC are connected to the phone correctly.

Is there any software I could use with the cable just to check that the cable is ok?

I can see a clean break on the track where I've cut so I think the test point has been cut. I tried 3 times to make the cut!

    Try this:

MPM (Mobile Phone Manager) for A62, A65, CFX65

    http://www.benqmobile.com/cds/frontdoor/0,2241,uk_en_0_47645_rArNrNrNrN_variation%253A-5_pageType%253Adownloads_imagePos%253A0,00.html#content

That problem is normally testpoint not cut but you can try the above sotware to check cable.

  • Help!

I've cut the testpoint track, in fact its deep but still the A62 states network locked to all but Orange.

    What am I doing wrong?

    re: A62
I carefully etched the track so it shines, then I carefully scribed a presision knife across the track a few times, well more than 10 really, I'm sure it's cut because there is a break in the track visibly fromthe gap in the shiner.

can I can test with a multi meter for continuty?, is the phone hard coded to orange only?

What codes can I use to test and reset?

    Cheers

I'd put the phone back together now. Insert a SIM and check it still works ;)

Then I think you need to run the unlock software SST and the like see the posts on this thread MAKE SURE you select the correct phone and the correct boot method then make sure the battery is fully charged BEFORE you run the unlock software (WARNING THE OFFICAL SIEMENS SERIAL CABLE CANNOT BE USED FOR UNLOCKING). Turn the phone OFF run the software, check you have selected the correct options, recheck (Battery fully charges, cable in securely, right options and boot) then power up the phone when prompted. Leave the unlock to run... After this stage you should have an unlocked phone.

Then try a new SIM or use the lock status codes I posted earier in this thread to verify the unlock as worked.

Let me know how you get on.
