If you're going to direct people to gsmforums for info on how to unlock, please be aware that not all info on there is correct, and unlocking and flashing can very easily kill your phone. Be well aware of the processes you are about to undertake, write them down, and follow them to the letter.
You just need to pry the shield off one notch at a time until you can pull it off. Make sure its firmly replaced, or it may affect the sim card placement in the phone.
Cutting the wrong track is very easy, and unlocking when wrongly identifying the phone in the software will kill it, although this is recoverable with effort.Originally Posted by richardjames73

Thanks for the caveats, I was not suggesting it is easy, as you point LOTS of people have broken their phones trying to unlock them, as you say "unlocking and flashing can very easily kill your phone"
As I said in my post I'm new to this and your comments and warnings are welcome thanks.Seth.0 -
Which copy of freia should be used and don't you need a dongle?
Why not just swap the sim's over when the phone is running and force restart of sw?0 -

If you're going to start flashing make sure you have backed up a working fullbackup (fubu) beforehand. If you intend to change the startup logo, make sure the one you're downloaded is working (check other users comments). I know that the a65 have 2 different models of the same phone, using different chips, both require different fubu.
Its very easy to corrupt the phone when flashing, but it is always possible to fix it if you have the correct fubu. Ensure the battery is fully charged.
You've got to start somewhere, and the siemens isn't too difficult as long as you do the testpoint correctly.jumper wrote:Which copy of freia should be used and don't you need a dongle?

freia tends to be the cracked version not requiring a dongle, use Victor instead which is free and better.
SST is also required if things go wrong - and is a jolly nice piece of software.Originally Posted by richardjames73

Thanks for the tips to sumaries I need to learn a lot. I think unlocking without debranding would be a good start for me.
1. Ensure I have a complete set of instructions outline what I plan to do, all the required software, cables and torx, and a fully charged phone before I start.
2. Review procedures and check I have everything.
3. Check software and images downloaded are the right ones, using feedback from other who have used the same source.
4. Create a full backup. I assume the FreeSiemans tool does this it had a backup button?
5. Pop the phone and remove. Cut the track removing / replacing sheild as required. I assume this is what is refered to as a "Checkpoint"?
6. Reasemble, power up and unlock
7. Test phone with non-orange SIM
8. If phone will not boot, restore backup from step 4 and retry.
I'm not sure where to get the victor program or if I need a serial or USB cable.
If the unlock works I could try the unbranding but that is not important.Seth.0 -

Where would one find Victor or SST; the only Victor I can find is for motorola phones?Seth.0 -

You might need to sign up and then scan through the relevant message threads for links to diagrams and software. If you don't sign up, normally you can't see the pictures posted as attachments to posts.
I'll be doing the same myself in a few days as I have a couple of the A62's on order from Orange.
Good luck.

Hi,
To be honest this is not an easy task. I use a microscope and scapel to cut the testpoint, and its not for the inexperienced. I have unlocked 100+ a65,a62 (same testpoint),a60 etc but still you can get into trouble. Cut to deep and you will cut the sim track and get "insert sim" even with sim in, cut not deep enough and the phone want boot, also please remember these are multi-layer boards. Easiest program to use is SST, then choose correct e-gold phone (a65), choose testpoint boot, then press unlock, power on phone when asked. Once program calculates boot key it will say power on, at this point you need to remove the battery, re-insert it and power on again.
Hope this helps, let me know if you require any more help.
