Siemens a62 orange network

I've just bought a new moblie thanks to the forum! Its a Siemens a62, with an orange SIM card. I already have a Virgin mobile account, which I would like to transfer over to the new phone.
Needless to say, if you swap over the SIM card, you get a "Network blocked" error message.
How can I fix this without having to pay orange £20.00 (almost 3 times the cost of the phone) to change it?

Unlocking a siemens a62 is a pain. You need a t5 torx screwdriver, a scalpel and very very good eyesight to cut a small track on the board. You then need to have an unlocking cable and a copy of freia (which is free) to unlock it. Its not a job I would recommend you doing unless you are competent at phone repairs.
Cutting the wrong track will destroy the phone, and the track is light green whilst the board is green, and its tiny.Originally Posted by richardjames73

 Cool, have you got a link to where I get an unlock cable? just to see the price. And another link with a graphic showing which track needs cutting?
I won't be doing it but information like this could be useful in the future.0 -

A62 is the same as the a65/mc60. Its the very small red line on the enlargement. I;ve done 2 of these on an a65 and its a pain to do.Originally Posted by richardjames73

Triffic! absolutely triffic! thanks
also very tricky! And Orange can do this with a flash upgrade instead or something costing 20 quid?0 -
orange can only do it by code (which only they can get)
no-one likes unlocking the seimens with track cutting (inc me) but its easier if you put a very bright small light under the pcb.
at least its only £10 lost if it goes wrong0 -

If you need software to test your cable this might be useful

The data cables come in Serial or USB I think the serial ones are needed for flashing (not sure about unlocking) This is the info for another siemans (not the A62)
I'm a complete newbie at this, so please check with someone that knows what they are talking about!
If anyone has a suitable cable in west London for A62 I would not mind borrowing itfor a few days. I'll post pictures of internals of the A62 and a dismantling guide, if I get a cable.
To check if the unlock has worked, try a SIM from another provider, or To find out the locks of a SIEMENS phone:
Take out the SIM and switch on the phone.
Press *#0606#, then
"Info" (left Softkey)
If you get 5 x "Unbarred" there are no locks!
Mine says 234 33 on line 2
I found this free tool, the Siemans one seems to talk about serial cables NOT USB
