Under OFT Guidelines, if you are classed as vunerable, they should probably not be chasing you at all.

Start with reading the OFT Guidelines for debt collection from the link below.

  • my elderly mother had a card yesterday, her address not her name rang the muppets up at RMA talk about jobsworth lost my temper a bit cos it had caused my mum some distress, not much help so have put in the hands of TS and have sent a letter today spec del, asked the bloke last night if he enjoyed his job at a mickey mouse company!!
  • Hi,
I have to phone RMA in a few hours so i'm just psyching myself up.
I suffer from post traumatic stress, I can't work and tend to panic when using the phone.
Why are RMA like this? Why does such a big name as barclays use these people?
Despite the problems i have in using the phone i have started getting used to them and how treat it all like a big joke. This is the only way i can deal with them.
I'm on income support which gives me £46 per week. Rma agreed to £42 per month (with the help of the CAB). I volunteered this amount as i want to (eventually) become debt free and because i want RMA out of my life.
I have explained my situation to them so many times but it never helps. Before the CAb got involved i must have explained 30 times. Each time they appeared to listen but when i finished talking they would always say "so is there any way you can get the money". I'd say no and i would explain again. Then they'd ask "so is there any way you can get the money". Over and over.
Once they even told me they were transferring me to a different department and it turned out to be a different company trying to give me a loan!!!!!
They agreed to an amount but they want more money. They apparently "don't do standing orders" so they will set up automatic payments for 3 months for you. Trouble is that the moment the third payment goes through they start phoning again, and they can only set up 3 more payments for you if you increase the amount. At first they let me increase it by £1.
So now its 3 months after that and they want more.
They want me to go upto £45! A whole quarter of my monthly income! I refused so i was told they can't set up payments for me but i can phone up once a month and make the payment.
    I said "fine".
They said "but that does mean you will continue to recieve phonecalls"
    I said "why?"
They said "because we have no automatic payments set up for your account"
I said "thats what i just phoned you and asked for. You said you wouldn't do it"
    They said "yes".

    ??

In bizarre contrast i am also dealing with an agency called wescot. They are so nice. I call them once a month, i pay, they are polite and professional. Occassionally i am asked if i can increase the amount. I say "no" and thats the end of it. Thats how it should be. As long as i am making the agreed payments i'm not doing anthing wrong. I don't need harassing.

I am always polite and try to explain the situation properly. I want to be as helpful as i can. Its just that some of their behaviour defies explanation.

Thanks to everyone here who have posted messages. I feel much better knowing i'm not alone and that i'm not imagining it....RMA really is this annoying.

just to let you know ive had a card from Rma for the dreaded visit today, oh shucks he didnt turn up blow, i stayed in all day should i now write a complaint for wasting my time today?

I had one of those once from RMA and phoned them to find out if someone was going to turn up on my doorstep. After a 10 minute debate about what the phrase "someone will call" meant they admitted that it just means someone might phone you not actually turn up on the doorstep.

The wording on their card is threatening enough to make people worried about some thug appearing and trying to gain access to your house - very sneaky.

Had a call from them yesterday but I'm following Martin's rule about not confirming any personal details to people who phone out of the blue, they don't like that and end up putting the phone down on you!

Yes I also just had one of these cards from RMA too said they are "calling" on Monday between 8am and 8pm - jeez must suck having to work on a Bank Holiday!!!! lol

I have had two letters from them now claiming they want my MBNA card payments and I have asked MBNA for clarification and also RMA for written notice of assignment but have had nothing from either of them yet.

Now today this comes - NOT EVEN A LETTER - IT WAS A POSTCARD so everyone could see what it was!!!

What should I do apart from ignore the w*****s? Inform OFT and write to MBNA about using these acre mongerers?? grrrrrrrrrr

I got another of the cards yesterday, and yes mine said they were calling on Bank Holiday Monday too!

I don't think they are very happy with me as last time I talked to one of their people I told them the telephone numbers were changing at work and got her to amend their records. Now every time they call they get a fax machine...

    A slight digression...

I deal with Wescot, a very nice man calls for the payments.
Like butterfly girl, the only time they have asked me if I could pay more I just couldn't afford to, so they said No Problem, and that was it, Except to say that about 4 months down the line I increased my payments because I could, I done this Voluntarily because of the way Wescot does business with me.
He also brought a debt to me, and I said that I wasn't sure what this was for, so he wrote down all the details he had and told me that unless I contacted them and agreed to a payment plan, I would hear no more about it from him.

And just in case other DCA's are looking in...
I ALWAYS PAY WESCOT WITHOUT FAIL - Even if I need to borrow the cash from a friend for a couple of days!

    hiya all

    Hi Culator
ive actually complainted directly to mbna and followed up with the harrasment letter and also data protection letter about removing my telephone numbers and to only deal with me in writing and for me to respond back in writing, im now awaiting on mbna to get back to me, but i appear to not have had many phone calls since, so lets hope.

However i must have had at least 10 letters asking me to call and pay up from rma, however, ive been paying the mbna bill via their bank giro and will continue to stick to my guns on the pro rata basis.
If you wish to have copies of my letters im happy to send you via private message no problem

Also, hi to pipk62, interesting what you say , ive had a call from westcot today , but of course i was a bit wary and thus not sure which of my creditors have passed my info to them since ive got a few complaints in and am awaiting their responces.
As you say they appear as they have been treating you well, ill see if i get any letters now from them, and will see how it goes, thanks though nice to see that some debt collectors are understanding. Will upate you all.

Off to do some more posting have a fun day tomorrow

I have RMA "Resolve" looking after my AMEX debt and I've got say they are the politest people you could wish to deal with, are RMA Resolve and RMA one and the same or are Resolve a different department, because my experience has been totally different to others on here?

risk management alternatives, rma, is who i try not to deal with, lol

not nice at all on the telephone, and dont reply to my letters hence my complaints directly to the companies who have instructed them to contact me,

im so glad you are having a better experience, this is what really should be happening not like what me and other are experiencing.

Im asking them to help me until i get back to work, but its a constant threat a day and its not nice at all

However, taking the advice from the cccs im sticking to my guns for the time being, lets see what happens after they have investigated my complaints
