Do not change the rom on HTC phones, it invalidates the warranty, you will be charged. Orange will only exchange it in first six months then you are required to contact HTC to repair it.0

That's very true, it does invalidate the warranty, however in all the years and different models I've owned I've flashed rom on them all and am yet to send a unit back. If done properly there is nothing to worry about but it definitely isn't for the faint hearted. A flashed rom = a better, faster machine. just my opinion of course but my o/h is happy with her new improved 3g now running a cooked rom curtosy of xda-devs with addition of spb mobile shell 3.0 on top of winmob and htc touchflo..!!! :T0 -

Its not a question of the flashing going wrong, its if a fault developes within warranty.0 -
Just one thing - Orange have done their usual and tinkered beyond belief with this phone. They have removed messenger, youtube and google maps replacing the latter with their own orange maps, which are rubbish, imo and changed a few (lots of) other things which just causes it to eat memory. One of these days they will learn we don't want them to mess up already fantastic phones. Anyway I tried to update the rom from htc's website but orange have managed to lock it so you can't even download the manufacturers update. no doubt orange are tinkering with this update before they release it assumming they do!! The only way you'll get rid of their software is by using xda-devs or the likes and flashing your device.
I got my Touch HD in Jan but it still has Windows Live Messenger and YouTube. I've downloaded Google Maps so that wasnt really much of a problem, however there was no Orange Maps that you mention. I managed to get a good SatNav program though.0 -

best read the first sentence which clearly identified I was speaking about the touch 3g in relation to the post before!
Balt, I understand where you're coming from but as for the warranty, especially when the phone is free every time, almost anything can be fixed by hard resets and tweaks so a warrantry means nothing to me. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of customer services and the time and effort to change when it can be fixed by downloading some software. worst case scenario I have to use my old device for a couple of months until I can buy a new one, but experience with win mob phones suggests that's unlikely to happen. But I appreciate everyone is different. As I said all imo.0 -
