  • Oh my god, what fabulous news! You must be over the moon!

My little kitten went missing for 4 days when she was only 4 months old (she had fallen out of a window and someone handed her in to the RSPCA) and I was in bits worrying about her - god knows what you've been through!

What a wonderful story Sharon. I read throughout the whole thread and was touched. I am really sorry to hear that she has cancer, but at least now she is with the people she truly loves.
Every extra day she is with you, purring and happily strolling around you should be a blessing for both you, your family and her. Imagine if she was still wondering in the streets on her own in the cold and with a serious disease. At least now she is warm, fed and taken care off like a baby. Hope she lives long.
    Take care

I am sorry to hear your news.
  • So sorry to hear that the lump turned out to be cancer - but I have always held by the idea that quality of life is the key thing, not quantity - especially for animals, who I don't think have any way of measuring the passing of time - so they dont worry about length of life, or quantity, but they are certainly aware of quality of life, and are happy with a warm place to sleep, affection, and good food!

Whatever time your cat has left it will be in a safe, warm happy place. It would have been a tragedy for her to have been ill with this whlst roaming the streets. I am so glad she got back to you for the next stage of her life, and hope it can be happy and contented.

It is great to hear that RacyRed's cat had a good quality of life to the end. Its very sad for you and your family that she has this diagnosis, but ultimately its great for the cat chat she is home, enjoy her.
  • Thanks everyone for your support. I know what your saying foreign correspondent, she doesn't realise that she only 7, just that she is happy and safe and well fed. I absouloutly sobbed myself to sleep last night, hubs said when i was asleep i was still sobbing, Maddy however slept on my feet (as she does every night) purring all night only stopping to munch on her cat biscuits. The thing is we humanise animals (not always a bad thing), thinking how sad they must be knowing that they are dying but the reality of it is she lives for each day, not thinking about tommorrow.

I am grateful that she is back home with us, we can care for her and ease her pain when and if it comes. Every days a blessing.

I must go now and give my two doggies some attention, Roxy the big dog knows something is up she keeps trying to lick me all the while and whining when she's on her own (somthing she's never done).

    Love Sharron
Sometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p
  • you are so right, you are mourning for her already, and looking at it from a human perspective, which is normal, it is so sad that she may not be with you for long, whilst she is thinking 'purrr warm bed, its nice here innit! wonder whats for breakfast!'

The hardest thing with pets is that they have such short lives but they live life in the moment.

so true...my little Stormie was in great form for the 18 months she lived with cancer, she had no idea she had it or her life was going to be cut short, it was just me who knew. she did get loads of extra love as a result...i did revolve my life around her knowing that we were on borrowed time and spoilt her rotten.

even when she deteriorated rapidly, in her last 4 or 5 days, i think she was more confused about why she was weak and not eating. i truly believe that she did not know she was dying.

her last morning with us, before the vet came round to help her on her way, though was a different story, she looked sad and bit scared. and her brother just cuddled her all morning...literally, i had never seen them cuddle like they did that morning. i took a picture of them together and it is heartbreaking but beautiful. i am sure i was projecting my feelings that day...but something in their little faces was very real and understanding. i won't post it here but am happy to share it if anyone wants to see it.

Such a sad ending to such an amazing story.

I'm so sorry to hear that Maddy is poorly, it sounds like she knew where to come to be looked after. I truly believe animals instinctively know where they should be and the best thing for them!

I can understand how you're feeling, it's horrendous. We had our 10yr old dog helped on his way on the 2nd Jan, and it was just the worst thing seeing him poorly at the end.

I hope Maddy surprises you once again - and lives to a happy and healthy old age.
  • Marmaduke, our big tabby, went out one morning last May and disappeared. We are in the country and neighbours did report the odd sighting of a tabby in surrounding hedgerows but despite exhaustive searches he could not be found. Then one October evening he walked in bold as brass, jumped onto "his" kitchen chair and curled up as if he had just been out for an hour or two. It was a real joy to have him back. He was in good condition and had obviously lived well off the land.
