I have just been reading about this challenge. I have been trying to reduce my spending on groceries so am up for trying this. February will be a trial to see how much I spend as I have never worked this out (including cooking a nice meal for 6 in 2 weeks time and cooking for Valentines Day supper) but I am going to aim at £120 and will be starting tomorrow.Debt on 31/01/2006 = £6345.14
Total debt today = £5663.50
Cards = £4206.34
Overdraft = £1100.00
Loan = £357.22 (ends January 2007)
£2 collection club = £10 so far
20p collection club = £2 so far0 -

it's for 4 of us and only includes grocerys and cleaning products, i have £80 left for everything else
Definitely not too optimistic. I spend 200 every month and until beginning of January when DD1 moved out, that fed 5 of us (3 adults, 1 rapidly gowing 12 year old boy and a 4 year old) 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs and five fish. That amount included all cleaning and laundry products, and pull ups for the 4 year old who seems unable to stay dry at night.
And we eat really well on that too, it's just a matter of planning ahead, grabbing bargains where you see them and a bit of judicious shoppingOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Well I failed miserably last month - and this month I have loads of people due for Sunday lunch, plus 2 adult visitors for a week. As they are travelling half way round the world, one of them is one of my best friends who I havent seen for 3 years I wont be able to scrimp on food too much.
So, taking all this into account I am going to have to set it at £250 though I hope in March to spend considerably less than this.0 -
Well January was my first challenge and I failed by 14p :mad:
January challenge was £300
Actual was £300.14
So I will aim for £300 again this month for 2 adults, 4 children (inc 2 teenagers), 1 dog, 6 cats and 1 bunny. To include all groceries and laundry/cleaning products.

Ok I am inspired again this month...last month went disatrously(sp?) wrong. Dont know why but hopefully will do better this month. Aiming for £250 for 2 adults and 2kids, (nappies formula) I really have no idea how moggins:A and Jamie dodger:A do it, but maybe as the months go by, I will gradually reduce it.
Mind you, as i sit here and think about it, before I wised up about our finances (also before ds was born, so no formula)I was spending over £600 a month in tescos:eek: , so there has been a huge drop in what we are spending. Slowly slowly, baby steps, but can someone tell me where I can find some patience...;)
Good luck with your budgets, one and all.:hello:Trying to tidy and clean while the kids are still growing, is like trying to clear snow even though it's still snowing

Last month managed to save £10, I budget £130 a month for 2 adults. In January I have emptied the freezer, using up bits and pieces, it's amazing how inventive you can be with a bag of leftover vegs! Hoping to stick to £100 this month.January spend = £100

Right, going for this for the first time this month :j
Does £250 for 2 adults and 2 (fussy) kids sound ok?
Also, how do you all keep trak of the money? Do you take the right amoungt out of the bank at the start of the week and just stick to that cash? I'm worried I'll be tempted by my debit card............ :rolleyes:Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do.0
