Shocked your DD classes that sort of gift as the family being poor.
DD didn't make that assessment on xmas - it's more than that - DD has known her since primary school, so has known that they don't get a vast number of gifts IYSWIM as well as that they don't 'splash the cash' in any way. And of course they are limited in what they can do as their son is wheelchair bound and deteriorating. The really sad thing is DD does not know that it's terminal - I do because I know what's wrong - and she tells me they have prayer meetings for a cure - but at the moment it is an incurable illness which AFAIK affects boys only. They have 3 daughters and 1 son. I was told by someone what his problem is but because they have never told me I have said nothing.
ETA she also knows it is a lavish gift! We have a Wii because my sister and BIL bought it last year for both my two between them. They know, as they have been told, that there would have been no way that I would have got one for them - I couldn't afford it. Their accessories have been bought either by themselves or they have asked for them for xmas/birthdays.

Unfortunately DD doesn't have many friends and this girl lives close by so they can walk to school etc.together. She's quite an odd thing and doesn't ever talk to me much. Her family are in some sort of evangelical church (neither parent works, father is carer for disabled son who has a terminal illness and is wheelchair bound) which they are heavily involved in and they are 'different' IYSWIM...so I will persist with her. Her dad chats - mum doesn't:confused:. So I have asked DD if she thanks when she goes there ...
She (the friend) does say thanks now when I give the girls a lift partway to school (because it's on my way - DD and DS walk when I am not at work.) I will regard her as a 'work in progress'.
They gor a Wii for xmas in that family. Between the kids. That was it. Oh DDs friend gor £5 from 1 aunt and £10 from another. Maybe that's why my DD appreciates what she gets, having a friend from a 'poor' family (compared with us...I am just above free schoolmeals income:rotfl: )

You know, it helps to know the full story - I would have said little cow for having no manners (and still think she should have said thank you anyway), but you so have the right attitude Valli - good on you!

Confession time: I didn't clean the bathroom yesterday as planned (I've joined this thread too late to start from the beginning so I thought I'd do the worst room first.), and I haven't done it today either! However, I did lots of form filling yesterday and caught up on paperwork I had been meaning to do for ages. And I came home from work today to find OH had tidied, cleaned, and hoovered the whole living room and bedroom! We can see bits of floor we haven't seen for months and even the hotspots have been tidied up! I'm so happy! Now I really must clean the bathroom and do some washing up because we have some friends coming over tmrw, and I don't think I can ban them from using the loo!
The trouble is, I have severe depression, and life is such a struggle that when I am at home I'm usually so tired from dealing with my emotions and the stresses of life that I don't feel up to doing much around the house. Even the washing up gets left until we don't have anything left to use and then I will start grappling with it. Disgusting I know, and I hate living like this. But I don't seem to have enough mental strength or energy to deal with everything I would like to.:o

  • Ooh!! We know someone who knows someones famous!
I loved watching House Doctor except when she had a go at 'small British homes' It's a small island - we don't have the space for big American houses!

Well I finally tested my smoke alarm - combination of pigpen and Julie Walters nagging :rotfl:and it was OK
And did some shredding and paper clearing. Will need to go through drawers again though, I'm sure I don't need to keep most of that stuff, but some of it is sentimental (if you can be sentimental about old work stuff) However I now realise my computer desk is fairly tidy (probably because most of the desk clutter is on the other desk under the stairs)

HeHe - she's much nicer in in real life...:rotfl:

I love Julie Walters, and that advert really makes you think - and check... well done you...

I haven't managed too much of today's list.

I've done the other load in the WM for the bedding that I couldn't do yesterday but then as I was clearing up after dinner and putting extra portions of chilli away ready to freeze - I managed to drop the chilli all over the kitchen floor which meant that I had to completely clean the kitchen since it looked like someone had been sick (or diarrhoea) absolutely everywhere. It was all over the floor, the walls, the door, the cupboards - eughh!!

Still the kitchen is positively shining now so it matches the sink......
