Miss A is learning about boats and poems at school this term, do any of you wonderful people have any poems about boats/sea/sailing that Y3 children would enjoy?

I have done a bit of hunting round and searching through our books. The obvious one I got was Edward Lear and the Tale of the Jumbilies.

I need to go and get something to eat but will be back in a wee while.

How about Sea-fever by John Masefield : http://www.blupete.com/Literature/Poetry/MasefieldSeaFever.htm

I remembered that one vividly from back in 1989 when I was erm...year *counts on fingers* 5 and was given a poem book. Don't know if its a little old for A or not?

ETA: I see I was beaten to it... oh and the proper words to "the boy stood on the burning deck" are a poem called "Casabianca" by Felicia Dorothea Hermans: http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/hemans/works/hf-burning.html

Today hasn't gone at all well - I feel like I haven't done anything, although I have now got the shopping in for the week.

It's ten to 10 and I still have to skin a rabbit for tomorrows dinner which I need to sort out before I go to bed as we're having rabbit stew tomorrow from the slow cooker.

I'm just taking a quick breather before I get back to it....... I haven't done anything on today's list but hopefully I'll catch up tomorrow

Well, I think I have done really well today. I did everything that I could off my list, which was most of it and then became restless so I also cleared the bookcase in our bedroom, sorted out a box of books to recycle and moved some boxes of things from under our bed to the loft, along with the Christmas decorations. I now have a lovely clean bookcase rather than the jumbled mess it had become. (I have a photo, will post in a minute as I am so proud!)
However, there was rather a disaster with the curtain washing...

 I shrunk the curtains

We have french windows in our rented house and the curtains have been there since we moved in, they are OK looking but have never hung well as they are tab top, but on a pole, held on by the funny hooky clippy attachy things (ok there's probably a word for them) so they usually ended up hanging off by about 3! They were actually about 6 inches too long and were really annoying me so I don't feel to bad about it  OH rehung them for me as I was so upset about shrinking them but he's done a great job and it seems to make the room look so much neater, having straight curtains!

I'm glad it's bedroom tomorrow as I have made a start today but I will post a photo in a minute to show you how bad it is!

Has any of you ever experienced actual bad luck from leaving christmas decs lying around? My DS2 is very worried about it, been discussing it at school apparently! Just want to know if i should be prepared!:rotfl:
    J

Nope - I've never experienced bad luck by not taking them down after 12th night - I just leave anything forgotten up until next 12th night.

The tinsel on the standard lamp in the kitchen has probably been there about 6 years...

I have finally got DS room back together. Don't think it was such a good idea to get it all done today as my back is now killing me. Just taken some super strength painkillers so hopefully I'll start to feel fuzzy soon. I shall have an easy day tomorrow - just got a bit of sewing and some ironing to do.
Going to watch the end of Waterloo Road and then I'm off to bed.

Thanks Mudbath - I didn't know how to do that either - but that's not what I meant. If you look at your posts - theres a line under your post, then under that, theres a load of payments (in psychadelic colours) - that's what I want to know how to do, please???

  • so its back on -
    do I go?
    do I want to go?
    can I afford to go?
we would be flying down and
I would need something to wear - only have casual clothes nothing smart.
do i need to buy a present?

oh double bo**ocks - I hate situations like this!!
    toots xx

Toots - looking at that list above I think you know exactly what you have to do - answer them and then decide.
If you want to go, go - sort out the money side and make sure you don't skint yourself doing it.
If you don't want to go, don't, have a perfectly good reason why you can't, let them know early and just send a gift in the post - job done...
From what you say about toxic friend, they probably won't really mind anyway, specially if you send a pressie...

    Good luck deciding hun x
