I can't believe it is February either TPA. It's positive as my new mortgage rate has kicked in but negative as I have taken on some extra debt which means that I need to take a leaf or two from your book and work hard at not spending but saving!

Well done. Looking forward to reading your next instalment.

I am saving up to get a mortgage to move into my dream are in my town. I am hoping to save lots towards a deposit over 1-2 years and while I am saving prices will come down down down to allow me to be able to borrow enough to afford it.

I am doing the following extra stuff to make/save money
    • Selling stuff on gumtree and netmums.
    • Going completely second hand & only buying new when I have to (eg. underwear & food)
    • Trying to find ways of earning money as an entrepreneur while son is at nursery.
    • Having pizza and premium ready food instead of takeaway & meals out.

  • Happysad...some great ideas there, I work full time as does hubby but he ends up doing lots of extra hours for nothing!! I am lucky enough to have a further income once a week during term time which pays well for the amount of time it takes. No children but a very boisterious dog who takes up a lot of our time.....I am happy to do extra work from home in the evenings and have previously ebayed most of what we owned!!
Any tips greatfully received for advice on 'working' from home in the evenings, especially if it can be done sat in front of the TV!!!!

  • Should have also said I've done all of the 'free bingo/betting' through Quidco and Topcashback, made a fair bit from this last year. I only ever signed up if the cashback offered was the same as or higher than the required deposit. Has a fair few wins and ended up over £1,000 up. :j
Most will let you join up more than one person per household, so once I had done them in my name and the cashback had come through I joined hubby up too:rolleyes:

I do think if you are not a dedicated saver the betting/bingo may suck you in and people probably do end up depositing and losing their own money

I wish you all the luck finding your dream home xx

I didn't have such a good day today, was a rebel and bought a sandwich, paper and starbar:eek: So much for my NSD, the only saviour was it cost less than £3 total, still shouldn't have done it though

sorry to hear about the washing machine; that's why we have the emergency funds, but it is far better if we don't use them. Try to see what you can get from Euronics - one of the biggest buying groups in Europe but they sell through local stores. Likely to get good prices and installation (often at a convenient time, which is good when working). Do a hunt around for models and pricing then haggle over the phone to save time.

Hope it comes in at a reasonable price (inc disposal cost of old one remember).

Hope the rest of Feb is better!

    Hi stuart

    Thank you xx
I have just been offered a second hand washing machine by someone in work, I'm so greatful, its not like we don't have the money but I had really started to get into not spending! We will see how it works out, I have offered our old one on freecycle for spare/repairs and someone is collecting it tomorrow, no need for me to get rid and makes someone else happy too.:j

Have looked into new washing machine (just incase) and one of the best buys in 'Which magazine' I can get (the Whirlpool) for a nice discounted price of £215....but as I say being a true money saver i would rather not have to spend the money if i don't have to! God i'm tight:cool:

Glad its not just me, I cannot believe how naughty I felt after spending that (almost) £3:eek:
Talking of crisps i found two packets of ready salted in the cupboard tonight...best before 7.2.09, so we HAD to eat them, cannot believe how good they tasted:rotfl:

I'm getting ever so pleased with myself and my long suffring hubby when we are good and have NSD!

Good news today, NSD for us both and I managed to sell our bike rack so thats another £15 for the pot:j
